Hi guys,

Mine seems to have stopped working and I wondered if anyone knows if they can be tested though VCDS or with a multimeter?  My mate plugged in his VCDS but it didn't come up with anything on the general scan and he couldn't find the sensor on any options.

Cheers

Hello,

Did you solve the problem? How does it manifest itself? Does the dashboard light appear when you turn on the ignition?

  • Author

Still not sorted. I replaced it with a Lucas part and it still doesn't work. My mate is gonna plug it back in lto vcds

If you turn on the ignition, does the oil level indicator light up? If you put the contact on the next time, nothing appears? If you put the ignition back on, does it appear again? What error occurs? In Instruments? Short to plus?

@Vijay2018 does your engine not have an oil level dipstick?

Why do you think it is not working?

The car has had this problem since I got it in 2018. Now I have solved the problem. It's not from the sensor. Tell me if the dashboard indicator appears when the ignition is switched on. If the ignition is turned off and on again, it does not appear, but if the ignition is turned on again, the indicator appears again. What error occurs in VCDS?

Yes it does have a dipstick, but I have a bad oil usage issue, so I really need to reply on the low oil warning circuit

Because my oil gets very low and the low warning light doesn't come on

When I turn on the ignition, the oil light comes on with the other warning lights, then goes off after a second or so

Do not play with the oil. More specifically, its lack, as after that you are looking for an engine to change. Do not rely only on sensors. Did you put the tester on the car? Did you autoscan? What errors occur?

At least go to the Instruments tab and see if there is any error there. Short to ground or Open to plus.

I manually check the dipstick before every drive. It's a pain through cos I'm using 1l of oil every couple of hundred miles.

No I haven't met up with my mate to scan it yet, going this week sometime

Do you mean on vcds?

Such oil consumption is not normal. The segments are finished. More than likely, once it was driven without enough oil and the segments were fried. Yes, in VCDS what errors appear?

Look here.

Now I read that you have no way to scan the car with VCDS. Ok, when you have the opportunity post the errors.

My Skoda consumes 1 liter of oil in 15,000 km. This is normal consumption.

What do you mean by segments?

I didn't realize it worked by heat, just assumed it was a level sensor. Can't get my head around it working by heat though??

As soon as my mate can run a scan, I'll post up the result. Last time he looked, it didn't come up with an error but he also couldn't locate any specific scan blocks for the oil level sensor on vcds

Piston rings.

I want to do a compression test but (some glowplugs were stuck so I've been oiling them). I've wondered if the piston rings are an issue, possible ring gumming as the car runs on veg/biodiesel

Well, that's easy enough to (dis)prove. Get a diesel compression tester, and do a dry and wet compression test. If the CR rises more than 10% when you do the wet test you have worn or seized rings.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to get the last seized plug out then I'll check the compression.

Appreciate all the help guys

It doesn't, the video is utter rubbish. The oil sensor on some cars is also the oil temperature sensor. It communicates the level and temperature data using a square waveform, it is not something you can test with a hairdryer and a multimeter

This is how it actually works, don't listen to that American cabbage

Finally got the glow plugs out today. Been spraying WD for weeks. I took my time going back and forth and with each nervous turn, the 2 seized ones finally came out. Both were dead.

So I did a compression test and got the following 460, 380, 390 and 400. The 2 dead glow plugs came out of 2 and 4 (380 and 400).

I didn't do a wet compression test with oil as I read it could severely damage an diesel engine

Not sure if the biodiesel/veg oil is suitable for the engine. On all my diesel skodas 1.9tdi and 1.6tdi it says on the filler cap No biodiesel. Its ok with upto B7 but any higher I think can cause problems with seals etc. if your using that amount of oil I wonder if the stem seals have gone.
