PD130 decat downpipe

Featured Replies

Looking to put a full straight through turbo back decat system on my newly acquired mk1 Fabia vRS, wandered if anyone new if it will need a remap to drive without warning lights without the cat or if it will bolt on no maps needed because it is of course pre-dpf era.

It'll bolt straight on and do bugger all, I literally have no idea why you're even bothering.

The first of many mods to come. Should make a big difference in sound as the exhaust I’m getting includes muffler delete and everything. Secondly should allow for smoother exhaust gas flow translating to faster turbo spool once the power is increased significantly. Just trying to do the bits I can do without mapping to save having to get it mapped over and over!

It won't affect spool because it's turbodiesel with a VNT, spool is controlled by the ECU, it doesn't work like a petrol turbo at all so the usual tuning guff doesn't do anything at all.

Alright then, at the very least it’ll allow for some cool black smoke when I do eventually get it mapped!

No, because it's not a DPF...

So your saying all these videos online of pd130s pouring out black smoke from the back have got cats? I doubt it.

I’ve had 3 TDI engined cars now, one of which had a dpf separate to the cat and I gutted the dpf first, then the cat. The cat definitely made a big difference in smoke!

Plus, we all know diesel exhaust sounds are rubbish compared to anything petrol, but to even attempt to compete with the volume of most petrol cars with a sports exhaust it has to be fully straight through to make a difference in my personal experience. I don’t understand why you are so against the idea?

Loud, smoky cars are antisocial,  not cool.

Thankyou for your opinion… Ultimately I’m building my car for no one but myself so if I think smoke would make me like it more, then that’s what I’ll do because it is my car at the end of the day.

What will you do when it fails the MOT and you are unable to drive it?

And the environment that you choose to pollute because you think black smoke is cool is shared by everybody including those with asthma and breathing difficulties.

Why do you want to "compete" with the volume of another halfwit with a sports exhaust on a petrol engined vehicle?

Consider taking up motorsport, it will be far more rewarding and worthwhile plus the mods that you make will add value to and not devalue your vehicle.

That’s why you have a friend that works at a garage lol. Or bolt the original exhaust and cat back on for it.

1 more vehicle out of the tens of thousands that are already decatted will hardly make much of a difference to the environment. I have athsma myself lol.

I’m not financially in a position to buy a track car, I just want a daily that I can enjoy and take to events with like minded people who simply are enthusiastic about modifying cars. Calling the whole community half wits is hardly inclusive and I don’t really appreciate, but thanks again for your opinion…

Never knew a question about something technical would cause so many ethical and opinionated responses!

Soot from incomplete combustion is hardly technical, you might as well light a load of tea candles.

Loud I understand, most of us were likely to have been boy racers at some time if we are honest. A diesel sounds so crappy and unperformance like that the quieter the exhaust could be the better, more chance of hearing turbo whistle etc but not the empty head dump valves that sound like a demented owl and cause the owners to drive on and off the throttle all the time or the popcorn rev limiters.

I really dont get how pouring out black smoke can be seen as cool, after all it means the engine is not developing the power that it could, would a petrol engine running so rich that it spewed neat fuel out of the exhaust be seen as cool?

Well, the whole soot meaning lost power topic is controversial. Whilst yes it is unburnt fuel meaning it could be burnt in the cylinders making more power, darkside developments have suggested that larger quantities of black smoke are unavoidable once reach the 250 bhp and upwards mark, so it’s really neither here nor there.

However all of this is irrelevant - because if I and a lot of the rest of the mk1 dabia vrs community want this to happen to our cars, then it will. My original question was simply do I need a map to take the cat off - no I don’t, thankyou very much, thread closed.

I doubt somehow that you speak for the rest of the MK1 Fabia community VRS or otherwise in your desire to pleasure yourself by pouring out black smoke.

As a fellow vrs owner I can’t think of anything worse than black smoke it’s embarrassing and most people just see a crappy old Skoda when they do it.
putti g a exhaust on to change the tone I can see the appeal slightly but I’d be aiming for minimal smoke personally lol

Again, a matter of personal opinion and taste…
