Virtual pedal “Simply Unclever”

Featured Replies

My 2016 Superb didn’t do this, but my 2023 one does. I’ve noticed several times that when I have been loading stuff into the (estate) boot, suddenly there is beeping and the tailgate starts to close on me. I always have the key in my pocket and we all know how easy it is to press the key fob boot button accidentally, so I assumed that I was somehow activating the key fob whilst bending into the boot. But no, it transpires the virtual pedal now works both ways - ie you put your toes under the rear bumper whilst reaching into the far reaches of the cavernous boot, and it thinks this is a signal to close the lid on your head. Whoever thought that was a good idea is not clever! I wonder if it can be turned off - the closing bit, I mean.

I have the virtual pedal in mine, MY17, and it's not trigger happy like urs.

Sounds like ur virtual pedal sensors r misaligned.

There r two parallel wire sensors that run the entire width of the rear diffuser, between the exhaust.

See "virtual" red lines in the pic below.

One is along the edge/outside facing, whilst the other is on the inside, facing the spare tyre wheel well.

Ur foot needs to go across both sensors, outside to inside, then back, to trigger it.

Unfortunately the only way to access or visually inspect the sensor is by removing the lower rear diffuser....the black bit, as it's mounted on the inside of the diffuser.

Then again, given urs is MY23, i.e. the facelift Superb - they might've changed the virtual pedal setup g made it worse, like they've done with many other things on the facelift!!

This sometimes happens on my 2016 Superb when I'm loading or unloading and when my size 10 feet go too far under the car and the keys are in my pocket.   If I want to avoid this happening, I put the keys down far enough away from the car so that my feet won't activate the virtually pedal.

I know some have deactivated the beep, but I wouldn't want to be without it as I want to get out of the way if the boot lid starts coming down when I'm reaching inside.

On a couple of occasions, I've been standing near the rear of the car when the cat has walked underneath and she's activated the virtual pedal!

Interesting. I can’t recall it ever happening on my 2016 version, which I owned for 7 years, and yet in 8 months of ownership of the 2023 version it’s happened several times.

I've have a 2023 model and can say I've done this a few times too.

Typically it was when we were skiing and the kids sit on the boot lip to put on/off their boots.

If I stand too close when helping them the boot lid has started to close on them.

It's funny because I had those one the Volvo XC90 & Merc GLE and couldn't get it to work reliably on either.

The Skoda is the opposite.

It's easy to use but sometimes a bit too trigger happy

Add me to the list, happened a few times. Learned to tiptoe carefully around the rear bumper, or to leave the key in the proximity of the front of the car.
