Car Alarm activated for no reason

Featured Replies

I was awoken at 4am this morning to my car alarm being set off. I went outside but could see no visible evidence of a break in or other activity near by. It's never happened before so I just wondered if any of you have experienced the car alarm on an Octavia mark II (vRS) alerting for no apparent reason.

Could a cat walking on the roof or a fly buzzing inside the car have set it off?

Is it factory fit ? I haven't had any real issues with mine, although for some reason I do remember mine going off once or twice for some unknown reason. There was nothing very obvious wrong. Its a while ago now.

My courtesy car has been doing it all day....

I've got an 06' plate Octavia Ambience.

Could it be something to do with the heat?

Going by the diagnostics, the temperature inside my car was 32 degrees C earlier today and no false alarms so I doubt it's that. Maybe worth deactivating the motion sensing if it happens again but obviously that reduces your security levels (Not a much as your neighbours ignoring your car alarm because they are fed up however).

If you close the door with the temp at 32 and set the alarm some systems will go off as the air cools down.

Probably true but not my car alarm.

Barometric Air pressure fluctuating wildly at the moment. This coupled with temperature could set the alarm off, I suppose. You could also have a buzzy thing inside the car. I had a small yellow spider in mine (not native, probably a czech imposter) which set the alarm off. Got him eventually and he went the way of all flesh!

Only time mine has gone off is when I locked the fiancee in the car when nipping into the shops.... strangely though she couldn't actually open any of the doors from inside the car and was trapped in so I was in the bad books when I got back

That'll be the deadlocks working ;)

Well thanks guys. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has experienced this. The alarm hasn't gone off since but it could have been for a number of reasons.

I had this the week before last at Tesco in Rugby: got back to the car, opened the boot to put the shopping in, then opened the doors, at which point the alarm went off. Locked up again, it kept going. opened again, kept going..... started the car (no problem there), and drove off down the Leicester road with the alarm still going strong........ got home, unloaded car, locked up, and it stopped. Hasn't happened since. ??????????? Still keeping fingers crossed!

Just for interest, where is the audible alarm situated (on an Octy), is it a horn or a siren, and how do I test it without breaking something? (please :) )

On the Mk1 if ya set the alarm as usual them use the key to open the door it should go off. Then put key in Ignition and turn to turn off. I hope it works...it did on the old one ;)

I think another way would be to pull the catch to open the bonnet, but don't lift it up. Then set alarm and then open bonnet.

Make sure you give the alarm adequate time to set before doing either of above

Mine went off (06 Fabia) yesterday morning at 7am as I opened my garage door. I'd not pressed any buttons on keyfob at this stage. Garage door catches the roof aerial a little as it rises, surely not that sensitive?

Plus, garage door has been catching aerial everytime I open or close it for the last two weeks but this is the first time the alarm went off.

Maybe a spider inside the car (tons of em in the garage as its not been disturbed for 3.5 years while I lived abroad - rented out my flat but kept my garage keys as I used it as a storage space).

The alarm siren is below the bonnet somewhere but the horn acts as a backup if it fails.

Just had a similar problem (hence adding to this old thread). Went out to fill up with fuel then went to take some photos. The doors were locked as I drove (had been in some unpleasant parts of town earlier) so had to pull on the door handle twice to unlock the car. Got out. Held down the boot release to open the boot and got my gear out.

Ten minutes later I put the gear back in the boot then press the disable alarm button (forgetting it wasn't enabled) and just as I'm about to open the door the alarm goes off. No flashing lights - just the wee-waa. Couldn't stop the damn thing! Pressed the buttons on the keyfob and that did nothing. Opened and closed boot and drivers door - nothing. It stopped after about 20 seconds so got in and just about to turn the key when the alarm goes off again. Thinking 'sod it' I was quite surprised to find I could start the car.

Drove down the road to find somewhere to pull up (all the time with the alarm stopping then starting again). Pulled up and went through the ritual of opening all of the doors, bonnet, boot. Still no dice. Got in deciding to drive home and call Skoda Assistance. Alarm started again on the way back but after a bit of a rapid right-turn it stopped and (touch wood) hasn't come on again since.

Made it home and got my gear out of the boot. Locked the car and watched as the red LED stayed on for a bit then started to flash. Unlocked the car and locked it again - still ok.

It's quite toasty (23 degrees) and about 20 minutes previous I'd had the air-con on. Is this the old invisble-spider-on-the-sensor problem? :(

My alarm has a habit of going off if I lock the doors very rapidly after closing the doors. Always stopped by unlocking and relocking using the key fob.

I reckon that the motion sensor is very sensitive and even a small air movement can set it off.

Fortunately it has not decided to wake the neighbourhood in the middle of the night.

Found out at service that alarm siren had failed after the Tesco incident......... so be warned!!!!!
