Problems with Kodiaq, after adding adblue

Featured Replies

I ordered 10 liters of AdBlue from the internet and refilled it at 5000km range. It now shows a range of 11 km.

The manual states that I should have a filling quantity of 18 liters. Is that correct, or is it 13 liters?

Today, for the first time, I started driving and the following warning lights came on after 1-2 minutes:

    Diesel preheating system malfunction
    Exhaust gas control system malfunction
    Cruise control malfunction

I suspect that this problem is related to refilling AdBlue.

Otherwise, it would be a very unfortunate coincidence.

Does anyone have an idea what might be going on?

May be a daft question, and I'm not trying to offend or anything... but are you sure what you received was actually AdBlue?

I have several theories

a) not actually adblue ( possible, but I dont think so)
b) the filling quantity is only 13 and not 18 L, so there is a problem with to much adblue
c) the adblue does not have the  right quality
d) it is an unfortunate coincidence and has nothing to do with the adblue

Do you have VCDS?

AdBlue is Adblue regardless of the Producer. It is Trade Mark.  Licensed. ISO 2241.

So as long as nobody sells Snide products it does not mater who produces it.

VCDS, the diagnostic tool?
no

Could it be, that the filling quantity is only 13 and not 18 L, so there is a problem with to much adblue?

I'm no expert, not ever having had to use AdBlue - but my understanding was that it goes in a separate tank and gets mixed in as needed in the appropriate ratio... I'm not sure what you mean by "filling quantity" as I would expect the tank to have a capacity, and if that's only 13L then you're never going to get 18L in there no matter how hard you try!

  • Author

sure..but I cant find any infos on the capacity...
is it 13 or 18l, does anyone know?
kodiaq 2019, 150ps

18 litres, increased from 12 litres in MY2019 (apparently build week 31 2018 - 30th July-5th August).

But I'm with Yogi, I do not see the significance to any problem relating to AdBlue usage, since I can't see how you can have too much, unless there was some overspill that contaminated other systems, but seems unlikely, particularly a cruise control malfunction.

Have you checked your battery condition?

You might be facing an issue with the AdBlue system or related components. The discrepancy between the manual's suggested filling quantity (18 liters) and your 10-liter refill could be contributing to the warning lights, particularly if the system wasn't topped up adequately. The AdBlue system is crucial for reducing emissions, and a malfunction in this system can trigger warnings like those you've experienced. It's also possible that the refilling process itself introduced an issue, or that there’s a fault in the diesel preheating or exhaust control systems unrelated to the AdBlue refill. It’s advisable to check the AdBlue level again, ensure it's correctly filled, and if the warnings persist, have your vehicle inspected by a professional to diagnose and address any potential issues. The Adblue is not mixed with anything. It is sprayed directly into the exhaust before the catalytic converter. Citroen and Peugeot used to use EOLYS fluid to make regeneration of the DPF happen at a lower temperature. This fluid is injected into the fuel tank and is transferred along with the fuel to the engine.

the adblue you put in it bad

you need to empty the adblue tank and refill with OEM skoda adblue, G  052910M4

after 2-3km , the errors will reset by themselves

I understand the problem was found to be

Is that correct?

Around six months ago my AdBlue warning came up: informing me that I had a minimum amount of miles to go before the car would refuse to start. I have always filled it when warnings came up and so filled it again - and the same warning came up again. It turned out be be the AdBlue tank levelling sensor was faulty. The shock was that Skoda do not remove the tank, change the level monitor and recalibrate - they choose to replace the whole complete, AdBlue tank. Cost? An unbelievable £850 or thereabouts!! Thankfully I was still in (extended) warranty and the work was carried out. Interestingly, I discovered that the sensors CAN be replaced and recalibrated by commercial providers. Please try them first (unless you are still within a warranty agreement). Also eBay can come up with second-hand tanks for your model around the £100-150 mark. Further investigation informed me that this level-sensing fault is not uncommon on AdBlue vehicles within VAG. Oooops!
