Antifreeze G40 — Specification advice

Featured Replies

i need to top-up my 2018 Kodiaq cooling system and am not clear which type to use.

Is G40 the same as G40 Si-OAT?

Is the colour important if so why.

Grateful to receive forum members help and guidance.

G12, G12++, G12 evo or G13 is correct, not G40.

I suspect G12++ or G13 is used. Why do you need to top it up? Don't use tap water, either.

I'm not aware of any such thing as a VAG coolant specification. As per @brettikivi about actual coolant specifications. And absolutely do not use tap water in a hard water area like St Albans; you'd probably be OK in a soft water area like this.

when i had my water pump / cambelt done, I specifically asked what they'd used, and they stated G12++. So when the beeps went an hour later, I knew what to buy and put in.

the expansion tank will say what was originally filled from the factory.

Thank you all for your advice.

Deionised water is the way to go. So thank you for your advice not to use tap water.

Likewise the clarification/correction about the right anti freeze to use.

Will go down that path.

Much appreciated.

I had to top-up for my Kodiaq 2019. Container says G13. VW specification for G13 is VW TL 774 J. Doesn't matter if you use different color. Just make sure you use that spec. In my case, I bought 'ready to use' so I didn't had to mix it.
