Front passenger door - central locking issue - door unlocked whilst driving

Featured Replies

Good evening all,

I'm grovelling to you good folks, for some advice. I have had my Fab for 4 years, and just recently it's started acting up in a few different ways. Current main issue is as follows:

  • All doors lock and unlock as expected using the keyfob.
  • The auto-lock at ~5mph completes as expected, except there's an extra lock clunk at the end.
  • The front passenger door remains unlocked when the car is locked from the inside or the auto-lock happens, and can be opened inside and outside even whilst the car is supposedly completely locked. The central locking light remains lit even whilst the door is opened, but the remaining doors can be unlocked as normal with two pulls on a door handle or using the central unlock button in the centre console.
  • The interior lights don't come on when the front passenger door is open, but do for all other doors.
  • Very occasionally, probably around once a week, all doors will unlock whilst driving (i.e. audible unlock clunk from all doors, and the central locking light goes out)#

From some light reading, I'm assuming that at least one microswitch in the latch is faulty and needs to be replaced. I'm looking for some corroboration to that theory and whether I should pursue that as the cause of the problem. The wires inside the bellows between the door and the body have been checked and they look to be generally in good condition, no obvious damage or breaks. I've tried the "firm bang on the door as it's locking" technique but no luck there either.

If any of the good folks on here can also recommend any savvy auto electricians or mechanics that could take a look (Bolton area but happy to travel), I'd appreciate that too!

Thanks,

Jake 😀

Possibly the door open microswitch, which is the one on the outside of the lock, or as I've seen personally, cracked solder joints where the connector solders to the circuit board within the lock module.
