How are you trying to set the destination ? also have you updated the maps ?

Do you have the subscription for online routing and map updates?

What I am getting on my Sat Nav screen when trying to set a destination “sorry, unable to calculate your route “ as I say when I get back home in Warrington from here in London the Skoda Sat Nav will be fine. ??????

Yep, I get that. Perhaps I should have been more explicit in my earlier reply.

My suspicion is/was that without a subscription for online routing and mapping it can’t access stuff outside of your local area; and that the local data was cached in the system during the early life of the car.

Of course, I could be completely wrong! What I do know is that with a subscription I can navigate to a side street in a tiny village in Northern Italy.

Just avoid using the built in system it's inferior to Waze and Google Maps.

I seldom/never use it. I prefer the fast planning & rerouting of the aforementioned apps compared to the built-in system.

In your opinion.

In mine, not so.

Good job we’re all different else life would be boring…

I prefer the routing algorithm and spoken directions in the built in system, then it’s Apple Maps, and a distant third Waze; can’t abide Google Maps these days. A friend uses the TomTom app and rates it highly - might give that a go.

I use the TomTom app and it is good, although route planning on the phone is a bit tricky - it is much better to plan routes in advance via the website at plan.tomtom.com. The built-in maps in our car are very out of date (2020) but I am hoping to get that rectified via the dealer since I paid for updates. I like the integration with the virtual dashboard with the built-in system and would prefer it for shorter trips, whilst TomTom is very good on live traffic information for longer trips. TomTom's pronounciation of place and street names is terrible. Since out Infotainment system has not been particularly reliable, having a phone-based backup is good.

But it's often out of date, it doesn't show cameras or allow you to add incidents either.

My Mk4 is the only car I've owned with built in nav. Although I haven't experienced any problems with it, I would have been content not to have it. However, as my car was bought as a showroom 'demo' (with 140km on it) it came equipped with every factory option known to man. Prior to that I used TomTom exclusively and problem free for many years, it  has lifetime free worldwide map updates and I still carry it to use in rental cars when I fly anywhere.

In recent years the only time I have experienced out of date data was being told a main road was closed for three days after it had reopened - and that was google maps.

I always turn off camera info anyway, that’s what speed limit signs are for and I believe speed cameras are a a). an excuse to break the law between them and b). a danger when drivers brake hard to get down to the limit before a camera.

Anyway, none of this helps the OP fix his problem…
