Apple CarPlay with ios18 / iPhone 15

Featured Replies

Hi all. Seeking some guidance if anyone knows:

- I used to have iPhone 13 using iOS16 and CarPlay worked fine through the wired usb port

- just upgraded to iPhone 15 using ios18 and now I can’t connect

- issues are intermittent charging signal for starters

- a pop up comes up every 25 seconds on the info screen with a connect button. Timed it right and pushed it only for it to tell me that the USB port doesn’t support Apple CarPlay

Now I don’t know what to do and I can’t live without CarPlay. HELP

I updated to iOS 18 last night (iPhone 15) and it works fine on my 17 plate. You had the cable long?

I do find CarPlay (or its integration with the car) flakey. Mine drops out sometimes and occasionally comes up with a message suggesting the device isn’t compatible. Odd, given that it was 30 seconds ago 😂

I’m using the standard Apple cable that comes with the iPhone and I bought a USB A to C adaptor

Ha! I just tried a very short cable without the adaptor and it worked! Bloody hell

You need to make sure your firmware is on the latest version. For example on the Bolero and Amusdem MIB2.5 systems, version 0480 had numerous fixes to make Apple devices work correctly.

Can only a skoda dealer update this or can any auto elec do it with their device?

Had the same problem, but I was using some cheap no name usb cable. I switched to a USB-A to USB-C cable from logitech that came with my laptop mouse. Works without issue.

No, you can do it yourself if you have a modicum of IT skills. There are numerous postings on how to do it on this forum.

Go wireless with a dongle, all the cable problems will be solved

Just to add to this - I can't comment on iOS18 (I'm holding onto 17 until all the bugs are fixed), however I've had numerous issues with the connection on my 2020 car.

After some updates at Skoda, the best they can do is have it randomly disconnect every ten drives or so. Unlike previous issues it doesn't require disconnecting or restarting, I just have to click connect on the screen.

I've had an A3, Leon and now the Octavia, all teens cars, and all the infotainment-CarPlay connections have been very flakey.

Using a nice cable helps (Belkin ones work the best for me), but it does seem to be a bit hit and miss. Frankly, I'll take the occasional disconnects over the terrible audio quality, and other issues I was having.

I've been running iOS18 beta since WWDC in June 2024 (and iOS18.1 beta in the last week) with no issues with CarPlay.
