I know this this is something to do with the gear change mechanism, but on putting the clutch down I get a squeak, audiable with the engine off or at quiet engine loads.

I'm wondering if this could be the cause of knotchy gear changes that i often get.

The weight appears not to fully return and appears to get stuck half way when comming back.

Anybody any ideas on how to fix this (If it's a problem) as the car has only a small amount of warrenty left and I would like to get it fixed if possible if there is a problem.

The weight is the larger item labeled in green and the lower thing that is circled in green is a piece of plastic which it appears to move on a pivot a little hidden in view.

The large part is the counter weight for the gear shift and the plastic piece is a guide bush for the selector.

Neither have anything directly to do with the clutch operation but do have something to do with selecting gears.

So should that thing move when you change the gear and does it should it move through all positions?

Both parts move when you change gear as its one piece of metal

Matt, the bottom piece is just a small piece of plastic through which the metal slides as it pivots.

I was kind of asking what it is for, is it a balance weight or something?
