Did a tiny bit of weight saving

Featured Replies

Got bored last night' date=' took the back seats out of my car & rear parcel shelf and went for a spin.

My god, the difference is incredible. It feels so much lighter and more chuckable.

Put them back in when I got back and went to the shops for some Milk and it felt [u']very[/u] slow in comparison.

How much do the rear seats weigh?

Why do you think my back seats have been in my bedroom for nigh on 2 months+.... Performance and economy benefits to be had. Why carry around something you very very rarely use? Makes no sense.

Weight saving is to be hand in other aeras too. ;)

Oh, and I have no spare wheel either, have a bllody LPG tank in there though. Tube of tyre foam ready too. Or if I go far from home I carry one of my track wheels around with me.

4.5 stone' date=' just shy of 30kgs, which seems excessive, but thats the figure i got on some bathroom scales.

Yep, i'm that sad....[/quote']

I have got my threads crossed or is that what can be saved from having a

sh!t!!!

even better

I'm soon to be around 20kg (or less) lighter at the front. ;) Maybe more if I get carried away with the angle grinder. :o

What's the legal position on tyre foam instead of a spare wheel?

Must be alright. My New Clio 182 doesnt even have a spare tyre well in the boot due to the exhaust exits!!

Feels as light as a go kart compared to the fabia too!! :)

I found this to be an intersting read too............ http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/43716/renault_sport_clio_182.html

lol that worries me for some reason!

SWEET MOTHER OF JESUS!!

Just taken the rear seats & spare wheel out, and been for a drive.

What a difference! I wasn't expecting it to be much quicker but omg it is so much better - "I'm Lovin' It".

Only thing is that the back end is soooo light that under braking its ar$e is moving all over the place, but the straight line benefits are well worth it.

Handling wise I didn't note too much difference, apart from the back end wanting to step out a little sooner.

It's all good

got to be worth a try... ;)

Im sure we have been here before, a few months back.

However, to be noted, the difference with no interior/spare etc, without the jabba arb, was incredible on its own due to the more twitchy rear under braking, enabling a bit of lift oversteer. WITH the jabba arb.............:D x100000000000

Its awesome, thats the only way to describe it.

Anither beniefit from less weight is stopping takes much less too.

So how much do I gain by kicking my probably 80KG, inept passenger out of the car?

Well, around 16bhp if the 5kg per 1hp gained is to be stuck to. ;)

Oh aye.

What about filling the tyres with Helium, and why not go the whole hog and fill the space left by the rear seats etc with a few dozen helium filled ballons? must be worth a bhp or 2:rofl:

How does it affect insurance, with stripped out interior. Does that come under a modification?

Ummm, no. :) I doubt just having back seats and spare wheel out is likely to cause any insurance probs in the event of an accident. If all the trim were removed though, through out the car, there may be more of a point. :)

I just see it as a safety mod if anything, as lower weight = less stopping distance (marginally of course ;))

Right, I was thinking about this theory and thought if you had say, an old 1.2 Corsa (45 bhp) and you were carrying three 10 stone passengers then you would have (theoretically) 0 bhp:confused: Now I am fully aware of how painfully slow the car would be but it WOULD actually move. Am I missing something here or am I just reading into it a bit too much:rolleyes:
