1.5 TSI E-tec (MHEV) 12V battery issues

Featured Replies

Anyone else here with a 1.5 TSI MHEV/E-tec struggling with their 12V battery?

I bought mine new in September (74 plate), and with only 200 miles on the clock, on Monday, it would not start 48 hours after an 80 mile round trip at the weekend (yellow battery symbol on dashboard).  Skoda assist came out and tested the battery to be normal with a battery tester, but could not test the battery via a laptop/ODB as the test wouldn't run.  After getting the car running for 2 hours whilst he did various tests, I risked a round trip overnight from Manchester to Oxford area and back Monday/Tuesday.  ~16 hours later and my battery is measuring 12.2V with a simple voltmeter, and info I can find on the web suggests anything less than 12.6V shows the battery isn't fully charged and <12.2V would represent 50% charged.

The verdict from Skoda assist was that something was keeping the car awake and it was slowly discharging overnight (body CAN sensor?).  Needs to go into a dealer for further testing, earliest I can do this and get a courtesy car is 18 November.

I WFH so most of my mileage is relatively local, with longer drives every other weekend or so. Currently travelling with jump leads, a battery charger and 20m extension cable in the boot!

Nobody?

I've had my Octavia 1.5 tsi mhev for 10 days now and last night I experienced exactly the same thing.

It's  got 250 miles on the clock and I've had a dash cam fitted with parking mode. I believe that this may be my problem, as it also gave my last car a few issues with the battery.

Last night I got in my Octavia and it wouldn't turn over at all and my yellow battery light also came on. J turned the dash cam offI and tried it again 30 minutes later...... started first  time!. I've adjusted the dash cam to only record when driving the car, so am hopeful that this will solve the problem. It's started fine all day today. My dashcam fitter had said that dash cams can drain batteries quite quickly in parking mode. Lesson learned.....hopefully.

Love the car though, and still trying to get everything set up on the very complicated (for me anyway) infotainment system.

I don't have a dashcam or anything else plugged in.  Mine has been sitting for 48 hours now and the battery is going down 0.4V+ per day.  I need to go out in it in about an hour so fingers crossed it will start with just about 12V in the battery.

Do you have a multimeter by any chance?  If so could you measure the voltage in the 12V battery after it's been sitting a few hours please?

My local dealer can't fit me in until 18 November so if it doesn't start I'll be on the phone to the supplying dealer tomorrow to do something better!

I don't have a multimeter as I confess I am a bit dim when it comes to car electrics etc. I get that yours is a different  cause  but the result was the same. I am hopeful, however, that I've found the cause of my problem, and I wish you luck in finding the cause of yours .Going back to the supplying dealer would be my next move if I were you!!!
