The A169

Featured Replies

I took Mrs P to Whitby yesterday and had the good fortune of using the A169 when moderately quiet. I must say, what a commendable drive this is.

My advanced driving skills have been getting a bit rusty of late and I had the opportunity, the weather (and the car) to practice the best bits. There are some spectacular straights on which 4 and 5 car overtakes can be completed with ease. Adavanced observations over the moors are exceptional, and I managed to upset sveral pensioners travelling at 35MPH in NSL territory at every opportunity.

Busses, Lorries, caravans and dawdlers were dispatched with ease and it left a very satisfied grin on me face at the end. The road surface is very high quality and I would thoroughly recommend a blast along this road on a weekday when the kids are at school.

Commendable!

It is a brilliant road on a summer's morning at around 7am. No-one around and perfect visibility. My missus is a nurse and when I drop her off or an early shift at Scarborough hospital, I go for a blast on the moors. Great roads and spectacular views. All you have to look out for are the random sheep and game birds (no pun intended) that decide to leap out at the last minute.

Is that how driving was in the Fifties? Clear roads, sunny all the time and no with radar guns?

I meant no ploice with radar guns.

police. Sorry folks, I need more coffee.:o

its great during the week...but its full of bikes at the weekend

the coastal route from Guisborough is a nice drive as well..not as fast but still quite interesting

still prefer the a686 or a689 from corbridge or weardale upto alston

again they suffer from bikers at the weekend...but its only to be expected as they are such great drives

I agree. It isn't really safe to have a spirited drive if there are loads of bikes around as they don't expect cars to be making good progress and using the road accordingly.

I was on that road yesterday in my black fabia vRS - you don't drive a black octy vrs do you? Coz I saw one.

The road to Whitby is ace, apart from the odd 1960s police Anglia, Bedford ambulance, and a nonce in a big coat on an old BSA:rofl:
