Shock absorber help please

Featured Replies

I have a 2016 L and K superb mk3 2.0l petrol estate with DCC, my local Škoda dealer has advised me to change the front shocks as they are starting to leak, they have been misting for a couple of years but I’m told it has worsened, passed the mot this time but I’d like to change them for peace of mind. My dealer quoted nearly £1300 to supply and fit which seems stupidly expensive to me.

I've read that the Monroe C2516S is the OEM part for my car, can someone confirm this is correct?  I can purchase a pair from Autodoc for approx £200, the Škoda dealership said they will fit them labour only for just over £300 if I supply the parts which of course they will not offer any guarantee or warranty (fair enough I guess)

I was asked “ do they come as a kit with the additional bolts”. I haven’t a clue as I don’t know one end of a spanner from another! Can anyone help?

Also if I buy a pair, is there a dedicated left and right or are they same both sides?

Yes, C2516S is correct if I remember. I have installed those, fits left and right, same shock absorber.

I think you do not get anything else with the absorber, except top nut.

I bet the dealer does want you to change them. On the forums lots of people report ‘misting’ as being commonplace. I wouldn’t rush to change them simply because the dealer has encouraged you to do so, lots of the DCC shocks go through MOT’s with ‘misting’ and I would only change once you actually notice a difference. However, you might not have a problem burning through £1k plus and in which case just make the change.

Good luck with replacing them cheaply if you do decide to do that.

Thanks, misting has been reported over the past two services but told nothing to worry about, this time described as more of a leak than misting but still not a mot failure, I do get some noise going over potholes and speed bumps, whether it’s these shocks I’m not sure.

If they are leaking, just top them up every 10.000km ;)
