Wire removal from loom connector - how?

Featured Replies

The loom wire for my oil pressure switch has broken where it goes into the connector.

I have removed the connector from the oil pressure switch - but can't get the wire out of the connector.

The connector has a small purple U shaped clip into which I have removed - but I still can't remove the wire. Any tips on how to get the wire out? - Or do I have to just buy a new connector? (There isn't enough of the wire on the connector to make a join.)

there is probably a small clip on the inside of the connector that will require removing to get the wire out ,then if there is any wire left on the connector you could just solder the wire on the loom to the connector

I've taken the clip out - as mentioned , the "purple one" - and there isn't enough wire left to solder to - thats my problem.

I looks to me like these connectors are no ment to be re-used.

The existing connector can probably be removed by poking an opened out paperclip fron underneath to release the barbs.

You can buy 'Repair Wires' which are yellow but it depends entirely on the size of connector as to which part number you require. Trot off to the dealers they may help.

Alternatively post a pic and give us a clue.

Is the plug 1J0 973 702?

If so then I have a new wire for you - Assuming I can get it from the plug!!

Nearly!! - Its 1J0 973 701 - this is the connector for the oil pressure switch on an Octy Vrs - though the connector is common to other models.

I was lucky and had a spare loom for mine when a wire broke in a similar position on my boost sensor plug. It was a case of cutting off the old plug complete and reattaching the spare plug off my old loom, cutting it off the loom with plenty of spare wiring, and resoldering complete with heatshrink, etc. :)

I have 702 here which from the blurred pictured you posted looks similar. I has two wires in the plug.

I had a quck try at getting the cable out using a paperclip but these ones are a bit too small. There is a proper tool but as yet I've not come across it.

If you want to PM me your address I'll send you this 702 and maybe you can get a wire out of it and use that.

Edit - Just looked on ETOS and your is 1 pin by the looks - repair cables are listed as well. 979 131 should be the wires you need.

The plug is 92p Plus VAT and the wires 90p Plus VAT although you may have to buy 5 wires.

Edit again - Just looked up a 702 and that uses 979 131 so the wires I have will fit yours. To be honest for the cost I'd get a new plug and wire and inline crimp it on to the existing car loom.

Thanks Stu - the wire part No will come in handy - I'll get an order into my local dealer. Thanks for your help.

No problem.

As I said I would be inclined to get a plug as well, no point in messing around for that sort of money.
