Skoda Australia - 7 year warranty?

Featured Replies

I've recently been consuming lots of Karoq videos in anticipation of buying one and recently came across this car test.

If the presenter is correct, Skoda Oz offer 7 years warranty, and this 'Style' level of trim (= SE L ?) comes with a powered tailgate and ACC.

I was also interested to hear that the automatic transmission is a 'torque converter' and not a DCT.  I'd always thought the DSG was a version of DCT, but it's not my area of expertise so gladly be corrected and maybe down under DSG isn't an option. The car in the test also has blind spot monitoring, not standard in on the SEL (I think then new SE L Edition may have this though).

Those 7 years of warranty though... :)

A few years ago Australia offered the 1.4 TSI without ACT and with an 8 Speed Aisin Torque converter auto,

(Also available in North America and other world regions.)

Where they have actual emissions as are,

and not cheated as in the EU for a Worldwide Harmonised light vehicle test procedure.    Rest of the world not stupid.

PS

When there was a Global Recall on DQ200 DSG,s in 2012 that did not include Europe as not part of the Globe.

In some countries including China they had to extend the Warranty to 10 years / 100,000 miles.

Warranties in Australia are or were 5 years.  There have been 3 recalls on DQ200 DSG,s in Australia 2009-2016 VW Group.

No surprise then for a traditional Auto.

Now VW,s problem growing is the poor longevity of DQ381,s.

I expect in North America , Australia etc the courts will tear VW a new hole.

Australia used to get the 1.5TSi ACT DSG but fitting the older 1.4 makes them cheaper and fitting a conventional auto is more appealing to the Australian market.

Supposedly VW was working on a torque convertor platform gearbox to replace DSG, but they canned the project as EVs got going so wasn't worth it given ICE car production will stop in the not to distant (in car manuafacturing lifetime terms) time.

TBH I'm pretty happy with our Karoq - I think the diesel Tiguan we had before would have been much better with a fluid link in its drivetrain.

On the warranty front, if you time it right you can get 8yrs using All In.   Don't know the rules in Oz. but usually to comply with manufacturers warranty it makes sense to service at franchise dealers to avoid any queries, so using All In makes the warranty effectively free.

It's a big issue for me right now looking at EVs - there's no All In for EVs and, while 8yrs is common for batteries, many manufactures limit the rest of the car to 3yrs.  Kia do 7yrs and Hyundai do 5.  But then there's a dead stop - they don't do extended warranty at all.

Which VAG cars have the DQ381 transmission?

2.0 TSI or TDI,s or AWD 1.5 TSI,s From about 2018.

80,000 miles Oil & Filter changes or sooner if the keeper chooses.

Thanks for that - I must get around to test driving a 2.0 TSi 👍
