At what distance do your front parking sensors work?

Featured Replies

I had my changed under warranty a few weeks ago and without being scientific, they just didn't 'feel' like they worked the same way. So having nearly knocked over a plant pot in the driveway, I thought I'd do a check (engine running, Drive selected, foot on brake);

#1 - person. No matter how close I walked or put my hand near the sensor, wasn't detected at all (bit worrying).

#2 - plant pot. Large (~50l) plant pot was only detected at about 70cm distance as a slowly drove towards it.

I'm sure that prior to be 'fixed' they reacted much better than that. So a request please - if you have front parking sensors (and a spare 5 mins), could you repeat my tests (with your own plant pot) and post back the results.

When the car was last at the dealer, I also mentioned issues with the infotainment unit that still persist so have been keeping a log of these to discuss with the dealer.

Both the front and back are extremely sensitive on mine, even a plant leaf is enough to trigger them.

Distance is pretty accurate too, the sensors are easily one of the things i like the most about the car.

Mine activate when I’m passing parked cars or if I’m sat in a queue of traffic. They are a pain in the arse like a lot of things on my car😂

My front parking sensors have been a bit of a hit-and-miss since I bought the car. Especially right after starting the car, they seem to take some time to "wake up" the first time.

Brought up the issue at my first scheduled service. Mechanic said there was an error code (however no warning light was ever lit in the instrument cluster). They changed the front parking sensors. Can't say there's been any improvement since then. My guess is that it is software related and that they forgot to update the software.

I like the fact that the warning tone from within the car comes from the corresponding speaker... so if you're moving your head, looking around, and you hear a beeping tone coming from behind you on the left hand side, you know that's where there's an object. Previous (older admittedly) cars I've had have sounded a  generic tone  but never had one come from specific areas as it does in the Octavia 🙂

That's a really nice feature, on my Mk3 I have to look down at the infotainment screen to see where the object it's complaining about is.
