Car wont turn off - key out

Featured Replies

Seems like the ignition have hang up. Have anyone has such problems?

I wonder if the ignition switch in the back of the ignition cylinder is smoked?  Or can it have other solutions?

The car runs not really well when key is out but still runs.

When engine is stopped (have to break it stopped) al ignition lights is illuminated. Key on engine running it seems normal until i tries to shut off.

Its 1.6mpi engine. Bpa or something

I had this a few weeks ago.  It was a dying battery causing all sorts of problems.

Yes i think it started it. But it hangs on after i put in another battery.

But i have not tried to go for a test run with the new battery though.

Maybe i should  try that. And clear all codes

Tried today with the new but bigger battery. First it seemed well. No ignition on when i put on the earth.

Started. Also normal. Turned off. Normal. 20 second later it went crazy flickering in the instrument light. Same **** again. 🙄

First remove the battery.

Check the connection on the vertical fuses at the front for corrosion.

Then take out the fuseboard assembly (which holds the smaller fuses and relays) and look underneath it on the printed circuit board for corrosion, particularly on the connections to the small fuses. Check too for water damage.

This is has been a problem on some facelift models and could also apply to earlier Mk 11 although locations may vary.

Check too the earth connections, and their cables and for black or green strands. Especially check carefully for this on the negative cable to the battery.

Your description fits with a corroded connection or, less likely, a relay with burnt contacts.

And where is the ignition relay?

I have checked the vertical fuses just visually and tested with a meter.

All were good. Have not checked that much and not beneath it. Will do tomorrow. Maybe its something in the instrument panel? Some Audis gets a cable damage there and behave real strange.
