Hello,I am a mature newbie, just bought an Octavia Estate 1.6tdi Auto, and hope to enjoy others opinions, general chat, etc.

Featured Replies

Having read some of the comments I am wondering if I should cancel my purchase as whilst the car is one owner, with full service history including a very recent new cambelt it has covered 102,000 miles.

No record of DPF replaced and this is not covered in the 6 month warranty. I would lose my £300 deposit,  but a new DPF I undrstand is very expensive.

For a further £2000 I could buy a 2 year newer {2017] model with 80k miles,.

Bought this as a friend has the same car with 126,000 miles and he has never had any prolems at all,, its ready for collection in 7 days so would love any comments to help me decide.

Welcome.

Sorry really i have no idea what you should do as the DPF might not be an issue, it depends how the car was used.

Was the water pump replaced at the time the cambelt & tensioners were.

When was servicing, oil changes done, annual or variable, 18,000 - 20,000 miles.

What service history is there, Pollen filter, Air Filter, Brake Fluid etc?

Are the tyres good, do the brakes look OK, and what is the MOT history looking like, passes, any failures, and advisories and no record of work done?

The higher mile car might be better serviced than the newer lower mileage one.     Might need less doing in the next year or 2.

Thanks,  Water pump replaced, and serviced annually brake fluid and pollen filter changed once, all mot's are passes with some advisories for minor things which were done.

I have decided to go with it as a better history than the younger one.

Can't understand why th road tax is £30 while the identical 2017 model is £190 but not complaining.

Low VED from the Government crazy years of kidology,  but depending which cities you might enter it could cost you.

It is a Euro 5 is it not rather than a Euro 6 like the 2017.

So you are not compliant for LEZ,s / ULEZ.

The Euro 5 1.6 TDI CR is part of those that were the VW Defeat Device scandal.

You will maybe want to check if The Fix was done, so the Software Update and the Air Flow device fitted.

EDIT.

If not done do not let anyone do it.  IMO.

PPS.

Any issue with the DQ200 DSG when you get the car then i would return it to the seller.  Sale of goods & you have the Warranty.

It will not be economically viable for them to repair, so no letting them try try and try again.

(There is no service schedule for the DQ200 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG, but there was a Service Campaign on some 2013-2015.

''34H5',  Check if done or outstanding, if done there should be a sticker in the spare tyre well, started in 2017, it was a software update.)

Just checked and it was made in September 2015 and stated as Euro 6, ULEZ compliant, and Road Tax £20.00, which I think is a bonus.

Road wheels are 18", was this standard?

Thank you so much for all your info. Nice to be part of this forum.

I think the 18" wheels were a factory option.

I have bought the car today and drove it home some 20 miles and found it excellent , autobox was superb, but on going through the old invoices there was a main dealer one that related to.multiple clutches replaced at 30,000 miles in 2019. As it has now done102,000 and the autobox is so good I presume no problems.

I will spend a day trying to understand the owners manual, so many gizmo's and I am rather aged. Other bonus apart from £20 annual road tax is a £250 reduction in my insurance premium [my previous car was a Ford Focus 1.0 L Ecoboost]

That's a nice insurance bonus.

I'm planning to look at one tomorrow, 50k miles.

I was wondering about the road tax differences, as I've noticed a few similar cars with different VED rates.

It transpires there was a hike in VED rates for cars registered after 01/04/17
