Infotainment Not Responding

Featured Replies

So I test drove a MK IV Octavia Estate on Wednesday and during the test drive the bottom right corner of the infotainment screen simply wouldn't work. It was the red + button for the driver side air con was stuck on low and couldn't be increased as the screen wouldn't respond. The smart climate button was also very bugging and after about ten presses it finally appeared. The salesman got me to hold the power button to do a reset but even after doing this twice it still wouldn't work.

The salesmen said he would get it fixed before I purchased the car. The car was sent to the service department so the screen could be calibrated, after the the calibration the salesman emailed me to say that it had fixed the issue however whilst testing it on other areas it still wasn't responding as it should so they made the decision to replace the entire infotainment screen.

So I'm currently waiting on them getting a new infotainment screen in to be fitted to the car before I purchase it but my question is should I still purchase the car? Is this a comon issue for these Skoda Octavias? Has anyone else had to have their infotainment screen replaced to fix issues like this?

Good morning Gareth, welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately a very common issue with the Mk IV. Try a search for Mk IV infotainment problems. It has resulted in at least two vehicle  rejections I've seen.

Hopefully the replacement screen will fix the problem with the one you're looking at.

Thanks very much! I've been looking round the forum for past few days and the majority of the posts I see are all about the infotainment problems. Although I have seen many positive posts regarding latest software versions fixing alot of these issues so I've not completely abandoned the idea of continuing to purchase the car, time will tell if the replacement infotainment screen will fix all the issues it has.

I'd be nervous if all they're offering replace is the screen, as the real infotainment 'brain'  isn't in the screen.

I'd make a fully working infotainment a condition of the purchase, possibly with an additional parts and labour commitment from them?

It's the whole head unit they are replacing not just the screen, sorry my bad explanation above! Unless the brains of the head unit is actually in the ECU or somewhere else.

The car will still be under warranty until 2027 so I suppose I'm still covered up until then if the same issue happens again in like a years time.

👍

Are you talking about 2024 FL model?

If pre-FL, new H49 screens should be all fine. I'd require them to put the latest infotainment SW as well, and with such a long warranty, I see no reason to be worried.

Yes, I believe it is as it was registered in March 2024.

With the dealership fitting a new head unit from Skoda I would assume the hardware will be the latest H49 and nothing older but I'll check. Same with the software I've seen alot of positive posts about latest version fixing many issues so I'll only accept it if it's on the latest for both.

Thanks for all the advice on what to look out for hopefully all going well delivery will be this week!

FL models have another hardware and different screens. I doubt anyone here had already any experience with fixing them. So what I said above is applicable only to older models. Though I think 03.2024 is still pre-FL, hope someone could enlighten us on that.
