MK1 Rear wiper issue on start up.

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've searched the forum and can't find the same issue.

2004 Mk1 Fabia 1.2 - I replaced the clutch 2 weeks ago, all went well, no problems, I did battery reset after reconnecting the battery, radio, clock, windows and central locking all working as they should, when I unlock the car, then turn on the ignition, the rear wiper activates, constant wipe, then when I start the engine, it reverts to normal use, when I activate the stalk, works fine, washer works fine, turn engine off, ignition on-no issue, no wipe Unless the stalk is activated, can anyone shed some light or point me in the right direction as to where to start.

As an aside, battery voltage is 12.49v 14.4v ish engine running, no other issues found.

Weird, wasn't doing it prior to clutch replacement, I've visually checked the wiring is not punched in the bell housing so not that.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

That's an odd one. As far as I know, there shouldn't be a mode where the rear wiper runs continuously, except as part of the wash/wipe cycle, so I suspect the problem may be internal to the rear wiper motor/module.

For what it's worth, the control connections for the rear wiper functions are in parallel with the wires going to the washer motor at the reservoir bottle, which you will have been near to in nearside wing when doing gearbox removal/refit, I guess? May be worth eyeballing for damage or rubbing of wiring on metalwork somewhere.

Hi all, I like to do a follow-up on an issue I've posted, on further investigation and after removing the tailgate trim, I've discovered the inside of the rear window wiper motor was full of water, the water was inside next to the circuit board, looking deeper into it, the washer tube going through the shaft was split, so every time I've used my rear washers, it was leaking water into the inside of the pump and circuitry, I've disconnected it and used a long bolt and flat washer to seal it up for now, I have a new motor coming this week, it just goes to show how electronics can be effected globally by one small issue, couldn't fix the circuit board as it was all full of white powder from the corroded solder and had etched into the copper traces, I'll report back once the new motor is installed and commisioned.

A further update, I bought a replacement rear wiper motor, it is now in situ, working perfectly, with no further issues, and everything is working as it should.
