Steering wheel retrofit - three-spoke

Featured Replies

Hi Skoda enthusiasts,

Although there are quite a few topics similar to this one already on the forums, please allow me to ask - my 2014 Octavia Combi currently has a 4 spoke steering wheel with no MF buttons. I have cruise control on my left stalk and control the small screen on the dash from the right stalk.

I wanted to upgrade to a three-spoke steering wheel, just for the looks - I found one for a fair price, but wanted to ensure it would fit. The part number is 3V0419091L and it came off of a 2016 Skoda Superb. It also has buttons on it. I would appreciate it if you could help me clarify the following:

  • Is it possible to move my no buttons part to the new steering wheel? (i.e. remove the buttons from the new steering wheel as I think it's a lot of trouble to set them up);
  • If I were to keep these buttons, would I be able to connect them and these buttons light up in white or green as they're from a 2016 Superb? (If it is possible that I just connect them to have them light up with no functionality);
  • Would my airbag fit the new steering wheel without any further modifications?
  • And finally, do I understand correctly that everything should be plug and play and quite simple?

Below you can find photos of the new steering wheel.

Thank you!

Apologies for tagging you here, but I've seen some of your posts on topics related to steering wheels. Maybe you'd be able to provide some valuable input regarding the above? Oh and... Merry Christmas!

The Superb and Octavia use different buttons so these won’t work on your car.
If your blanks are the same shape then yes they’ll fit, as I’ve swapped Octavia / Superb / Yeti buttons / wheels around on what is essentially the same wheel.

The buttons tend to work across multiple cars so there is a good chance they will just work given both are MQB platform. At least assuming they have the same buttons on them.

Swapping them is also pretty easy but the plastic frame is easily damaged so if be tempted to try the new buttons first if they look suitable.

No idea what colour lighting they'll have in afraid.

I think both those years are using the older airbag design so it should all be pretty easy...

Thank you both for your replies! I fitted the new steering wheel and moved the blank buttons over to the new wheel, as my airbag I had only 1 connector and nothing for the buttons.

Very simple swap.

@Georgi

I have the same situation. A 2013 Octavia with the 4 spoke steering wheel with no buttons.

I will want to transfer the blank buttons from my old to the new wheel as I don’t need the buttons.

But did you original airbag fit the new wheel?

Thanks

Hi Lee,

Yes, it did. It is literally a five minute job.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I’ve just ordered the same 3 spoke wheel as you using the part number you listed.

Seen a video on how to remove airbag and steering wheel and seems ok I guess.

How difficult was it to remove the buttons and replace with the black plastic?

Pretty straightforward - they are kind of plugged in if I remember correctly, just slowly wiggle them out.

There probably will be videos of that as well. Try button fixing videos and they'll disassemble them there.

Thanks!

Appreciate the info and help.

The 3 spoke looks so much nicer, seems an easy decision to upgrade.

Hopefully it’s as easy as it seems :)

Thanks

Lee!👍🏼

@Giorgi

New wheel came today, will be fitting this later.

This isn’t a big deal, but is there a way to wire up the multifunction buttons so they can be used?

If not I’m still happy to transfer the blanking plates over.

Thanks

Lee.

Good stuff!

I'm actually looking into that myself at the moment. It is for certain that you'll need a different airbag connecter, a highline gateway module and maybe a few other bits and pieces - I am not exactly sure.

There are many threads on the forums. If you ever do figure it out, please post here as well!
