How to reach the oil filter in a 1.2 diesel?

Featured Replies

Hello fellow Skodians,

I have a Fabia MkII 1.2 diesel and would like to change its oil filter (as part of an oil change, of course). All the videos I found online describing the process focus on the 1.6 model, where the filter is easily accessible after temporarily removing a small part. However, in the 1.2 model there doesn’t seem to be an obvious way to reach it. There's a pipe (EGR?) in the way so the angle is too tight to get a ratchet extension bar down there.

Please, see the attached photos.

I'm a noob when it comes to oil filter changes, so I might be missing an obvious step.

Thanks for your input!

Watch out for the hot pipes around the filter and then you  will need a 32mm socket a long extension and ratchet or bar, I also used a swivel knucke adaptor that was in the  socket set to allow a more upright position on the bar but you do not have to use this, you need to then unscrew top of housing right off and remove by putting your hnd under the pipes and a little wiggle will get it out, have a rag ready uder the housing  as it will leak oil out due to the position you have the filter cap and filtet, don't forget to change both rubbers on the cap and give the housing on the car a wipe out before refitting

Thank you Murdockman. I think the swivel knuckle adaptor was the key element missing in my plan.
