Octavia iV mk4 drive modes

Featured Replies

I have bought a 2021 Škoda Octavia iV mk4

great car however on my drive settings I don’t have the option to change between electric, hybrid and auto mode as can be seen in the cars manual on page 71.
I took it to Škoda and they told me this option has been removed to avoid glitching between modes.
this means that hybrid mode only comes on when the electric battery is empty the. Both run together when the car regenerates as ot drives on the petrol engine.
is it true that this feature has been removed and why would it be in the cars manual.
thank you

My 71 plate PHEV has this option.  If I am on the motorway and have switched to hybrid I set the required battery level to around 50% so that I have battery available at the end of the journey.

What is the version of your infotainment software?  I am on 1941.

Thanks for the reply. Eventually found the hidden menu which tells me the software my car has is 1969.
frustrated by Škoda being dismissive but I don’t know why I wouldn’t be able to switch between modes when I want to. The options are just not on the screen despite being shown in a diagram in the cars manual and online.

Just out of curiosity, would you post some pictures how it looks like in your car?
What Skoda told you is some BS, I'd say.

@CsW Welcome.

I assume you took it to a Skoda Main Dealership not Skoda and spoke to someone.

What Scottish Dealership Group were they, and who did you speak to, was it a Master Tech or Tech from the workshop?

Just to clarify (or better understand your question/problem):
what do you mean by "auto mode"? The car can drive in electric mode (assuming there's some energy in the HV battery) or hybrid mode.

No, I think there's some misunderstanding somewhere - you can "ask" the car to drive in hybrid mode even when your HV battery is charged to full capacity if that is what you want.

I can only assume that you are referring to the "Auto" checkbox in the attached snapshot. That one does NOT refer to the driving mode, and it only makes sense if you are in Hybrid-mode:
- if you drive in EV-mode the battery can only discharge (unless you're going down a mountain, in which case it might charge) ;
- if you're in Hybrid-mode with "Auto" tick-box checked the car will use the battery as it considers necessary - so it will eventually deplete;
- Hybrid-mode with "Auto" unchecked will allow you to use the up/down arrows (see "D"-indicator in the attached picture) to maintain or set a desired battery charge level that the car will try to achieve. If the "desired" charge level is lower than your current charge level - the battery will go down, but not bellow the level that you set. If the desired charge level is above your current battery charge, the car will use the combustion engine to charge the HV battery via the electric motor...

Thank you everybody for the comments. Basically I don’t have the options on my driving mode screen to select electric, hybrid or auto.

I took the car to the Škoda Arnold Clark in Edinburgh. They said a technician looked at the car and that the options have been removed in a recent update. I just don’t think that it correct.

please see photo of what I see on the drive mode screen.

Is the car a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) or a Mild Hybrid (MHEV)? I've got a 2021 PHEV and I can't imagine those control functions being removed because they are pretty fundamental to how you use the vehicle.

Aaa Arnold Clark.  Knowledge of vehicles functions.

Unbelievably they own a College for training people in the Motor Trade.

The car is a plug in hybrid. I don’t understand why I don’t have those functions.
not really sure what step to take next. Škoda technically saying that the function has been removed. Even though they are still in the cars manual?

Apologies for revealing my basic ignorance/foolishness (particularly as you have been engaging with a Skoda dealer), but....

Perhaps you have a different manual to the one I have, but I'm confused by you mentioning Page 71. (Note I have the Columbus, not the Bolero, but both are included in the manual I have.)

The section on the operation of driving mode selection starts on page 131 in my manual...

...which makes me wonder** if there are two different functions at play here, one for simply setting Eco, Normal, Sport, etc. (accessed through a function on the screen menu) and one that does that and allows one to switch between E-mode and Hybrid (accessed by using the Mode button) and gives access to the "auto" function with the latter.

** - Sorry, but I can't be bothered to get in my car and find out for myself and, besides, I'm hopeless when it comes to navigating decision trees, except for a knack of ending up where I don't want to be.

I have no other ideas but that your car has wrong SW on it. It happened to me once that after anther SW update made by dealer, they put some ICE version of it on my PHEV car and I had something weird appeared, like Start-Stop on/off button, which PHEVs don't have. I would suggest speaking to another workshop/dealership to see if they can fix that and bring back PHEV related settings.

I had the mode screen disappear completely after upgrading to version 1941. Had to do factory reset for it to appear again.

Have you tried a reset?
