2008 Fabia 1.9d - Gear selector Lever Fitment

Featured Replies

2008 Skoda mk2 gearbox Gear Selector Lever replacement different to original.

Has anyone else replaced the small plastic gear selector lever on top of the gearbox, where the selector cables from the internal gear lever attaches?

The original lever became stiff, and when trying to free it off, the mounting shaft, to the gearbox casting snapped.

The original part number is 6Q0.711.203.A

Apparently this has been replaced by another part number:

 6Q0.711.203.B

I have also got another part number from Skoda, marked as

6R0.711.203

but this also is too short to reach the vertical actuator

However, this revised part number is the wrong shape for the whiteplastic vertical actuator on thegearbox selector, to reach the curved metal groove as the one that was removed from the vehicle did? See picture attached.

The 1st pic shows the replacement part, the 2nd shows the old part, where the white part is not visible, as it correctly reaches the actuator.

Has anybody else had this problem when replacing this part, if you have, how did you get around it, or have I indeed been supplied with the wrong part from my local Skoda dealer?

Are you sure the part number is correct from the original?  I had a look on line and came up with 6Q0711202 for MK2. Not sure what model or gearbox you have?

I found this online with links to Skoda Etka. Look under pedals then 711-030. https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares

Its easy to mistake 3 for 2 on some of the parts.

Thanks for the info, here’s the number that I got off of the part, that was removed from the car, so a bit more confused now.

Car is:

Skoda Fabia Mk2 - 1.9 Diesel

Year: 2008

That agrees with something I found, that suggested 6Q0711203A had been superseded by 6Q0711202J.

If you give me reg plate or VIN, I can look up what's currently suggested for your car.

For some reason there are two part numbers on it. Look under Germany there is the part number I found online. 6Q0711202. I repaired mine by drilling out broken shaft and using a carriage bolt the same diameter. Timco Carriage Bolts Carbon Steel Zinc-Plated M10 x 100mm 25 Pack (233KF) I managed to tap the bolt home to secure it with the square section and at the same time glued it with two part araldite. I used a nyloc nut when fitting it back in car. Tightned it then slackend off just enough to get it to turn. I did get a replacement eventually but the repair is still on the car. You maay have to drill out the broken shaft slightly larger than the thread to get the square section to tap in.

Thanks for the info, Breezy Pete. Ive been on to the parts department at the main dealer again. They have ordered another new part, which should be the 6Q0711202J. Will be at the dealers next Thursday, so keeping fingers crossed that this is now the correct part, will wait and see.

I have been looking online using the Vin number, but again cannot find anything for it, whats the website you are searching on, for future reference?

Vin No: TMBBG25J593094731

Many Thanks

Barry

Thanks Alasdair1.

Great idea using a bolt to replace the broken shaft.

i have also repaired the broken lever by screwing through the back of the shaft and also using JB Weld Adhesive, which has worked well. However, going forward, i would prefer to have the correct replacement part, just in case this repair fails.

If i still cant find the correct replacement part, i will fit the repaired lever, until i can source the correct replacement part.

The dealers have ordered me another part, which will be with me by the end of the week, so im keeping my fingers crossed that this is now correct.

Many Thanks for the information

I use partslink24, but it ain't free.

Your VIN gives two results, the 6Q0711202J, which it says was dropped on 1st Aug 2009, with the comment "Please contact your dealer for the parts interpretation"

The other one is 6Q0711202L, dropped on 1st Jan 2012 and superseded by 6R0711202A. I suspect this may be what you get.
