What options for a corrupted infotainment screen?

Featured Replies

Hi. As per the attached screenshot (🙂)  my infotainment system screen has become corrupted and just shows a pattern of vertical lines whether it is on or off.

The only option Euroskoda Worthing can offer is the replacement of the whole system at a cost of just under £2k. However, I believe that the system itself is still functional and it is just the screen (or connections to the screen) that is faulty.

I wanted to ask this community what you recommend I do? Is there an option that is less than £2k? Your help much appreciated.

There are companies who offer to repair sat navs if you search online who could be cheaper, but I've never used any of them, so maybe someone else with experience of them can recommend a repairer.

In the Octavia MK3 forum there used to be a guy who repaired VAG Systems.

Not sure if he's still around but have a search for "Columbus repair" in the Octavia side.

Thanks @Gabbo. Found @Rustynuts to whom I think you may be referring and have reached out to him.

I don't think you'll get a reply from him as he hasn't visited the site for over two years.  If you look at his activity, there's been a couple of similar queries to yours over the past couple of years that haven't been answered.  Sorry😣

I think it's quite an uncommon headunit unfortunately, looks like 3V0035869C to me...

As it's an all-in-one unit, a dealer will only be able to offer a complete replacement hence the price.

If it were me, I'd be tempted to open it up and replace the LCD. You might be able to find a part number sticker attached to the rear of the LCD and then try Aliexpress/eBay or find an identical used headunit to get the screen from.

There is one hopefully version but the description and photos don't match so you should check before buying: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335358189693

Really helpful @langers2k, thank you.

Just to close this topic, I ended up going to SatNav Systems.

They were great.

Were able to replace just the screen and some attendant motherboard type thing which obviously worked out at a fraction of the cost of replacing the whole system.
