Octavia MK3 aftermarket headunit possible?

Featured Replies

Potentially replacing my car with an Octavia. I currently use a pioneer 950dab head unit in my honda which is a great unit and has wireless android auto which I love.

Struggling to find some info about the Octavia units. Seems to mostly be about swapping to newer OEM units.

Would a aftermarket full size double unit like mine fit? (Not sure how much space is behind the current screen as I realise the hardware is in the glovebox)

If I was to go with OEM upgrade would there be any advantage over aftermarket ?

Do any of the OEM headunits come with wireless android auto? (I know can use adapter but prefer not to)

Nope no wireless android auto on any oem head unit.

The adaptors work really well thought.

The advantages are good call quality (that will degrade on an after market unit) plus you maintain all the car settings and errors messages.

If you car doesn't have the unit you want, you can easily upgrade

What are the car settings/ error messages that show? I figured these would all be done on dashboard.

It does seem really easy to upgrade and if I didn't already have a good headunit from my current car I'd go OEM but not sure if worth spending the £500+ if won't see massive difference from what I've got

There is a CAR menu that shows messages and allows you to change many settings (details are in the manual), any head unit not specificly designed for an Octavia 3 won't have this menu and as the infotainment is the only way of setting/checking them (Apart form a diagnostic tool) it's not wise to fit a head unit without this menu.

Ah right, haven't bought the car yet so don't have the manual unless there's an online copy?

Think those settings are worth the £500+(from what I've read) it would cost to stay OEM?

I'm happy to use diagnostic tool for issues

Definitely - even simple things like resetting the TPMS after correcting tyre pressures use the infotainment (or a scan tool).
