Didn't see this coming....

Somebody was saying the other day on a Video, i think a Chris Harris Podcast about Jaguar and all the Spin and Hype and maybe when TESLA does actually build and sell a new small car it will just appear ready to go.

Well done Skoda because the teaser and years of build ups can be a PITA.

VW are for ever spinning what is coming and not in the near future.

I saw it come up a couple of days ago on their Youtube channel as a forthcoming live event- not had chance to watch it back,
I always find it interesting to read the Press Kits for launches like these - although details can vary when it comes to  spec of UK-specific models.
https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/press-kits/new-skoda-enyaq-press-kit/

One snippet I saw was that in "key European markets" people can order the new ones from tomorrow.

Basically they have changed to front to look like the new family style that was recently launched with Elroq.

Most of the other tweaks are minor, but good excuse if as a manufacturer hoping to squeeze in a price rise (let's see if they do)

Have to say...   I much prefer that new front end...

I agree, although the design change seems to improve aerodynamics so range wil be slightly better on long drives. MEB has plenty of range in my experience so it might send folks towards the smaller battery version?

I think a price rise is likely coming as the current model is close to the Elroq in price, so makes the Elroq look expensive. Although Elroq is also more expensive than EV-3 so maybe that will get a small price cut when the Expensive Car Tax comes in April?

Yes it does seem that a lot of the change is to bodywork which will improve aero but not so much under the skin, at least not for the 85 versions - the 60 versions may have more change?
That said ( as the video from "Electrifying" points out) they did already make bigger changes to the underlying bits last year when the 80 versions were replaced with the 85.
One thing which puts me off the Elroq is that (as I understand the UK specs at least) you can't get paddles for regen/recuperation unless you cross the £40K tax threshold.
I don't have an EV, but I'm used to my DSG Octavia which coasts when it sees fit, and I do think that improves economy in free-flowing roads (not so much in urban traffic / traffic jams of course).
So my ideal EV would coast most of the time, with regen I could control from the wheel or even trigger with the old-fashioned brake pedal.
But I suspect you need an EV with paddles to get them into a coasting mode?

Depends on the EV. For MEB cars from VAG the default is to coast when lifting off. Intelligent Drive (VW name but Skoda has equivalent) will regen brake for corners / approaching vehicles / etc unless the driver intervenes. B-mode gives up to full regen braking when lifting off and this can be modulated using the accelerator. Some models have paddles to vary the regen level. VW models do not have regen paddles.

AFAIK Tesla are the opposite and regen brake as you lift off. I cannot speak for others.

yes Skoda call it eco assist and do have paddles.

This facelift was trailed in advance months ago. We were told about it when a bunch of us were invoted to Mlada Boleslav last year. This is pretty uch cosmetic because all the big tech uplift was done last year with the 2024 model.

My question is really on how much control you have over regen on the models *without* paddles? How well do they coast for instance?

My old DSG diesel seems to coast very freely, but that obviously doesn't have an electric motor attached to an axle.

Some of the Enyaqs don't have the paddles, including some of the 85s (looking at pictures on Autotrader) but also the Elroqs don't seem to get paddles until you get to higher spec models which are the wrong side of the critical 40K tax threshold.

I'm wondering how much importance to attach to the paddles (or lack of) when considering buying something like an Enyaq or Elroq.

My Enyaq doesn't have paddles..

Has a B mode where it genbrakes as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator.

Otherwise it's Automatic only applies if you touch the brake pedal or to keep it at cruise control speed going down hill.

otherwise it would freely roll down hill increasing speed

I don't use B, i prefer the benefit of the coasting.

Looking at the configurator, it seems the facelifted Enyaqs are on there - and like the Elroq you don't get paddles any more until you go up to Sportline trim.

That's not a million miles away from the way coasting works on my Octavia, minus the ability to regen brake of course.

It's interesting how design cues evolve, but characteristic features are retained to maintain brand familiarity.

Different, but not unfamiliar.

Not sure about the bonnet Logo changing to the Skoda name.

I wonder if that's a subtle sign of a future change of brand?

Also I like how the Enyaq has departed a little from the sharp angular designs that characterise a lot of EVs.

It's like some manufacturers have agreed a "No curves on EVs!!" rule. 😄
