Reduced performance before service

Featured Replies

Does everyone feel when the service interval comes near, the car’s performance reduces and it doesn’t pull as hard?

But after the service it feels fast

Tell us then about the Service please..

?

Is it more than an Oil & Filter change, is is Spark Plugs, Air Filter, Brakes Serviced, Tyre Pressures adjusted or increased?

?

When was the last service, how many miles / km previously etc etc .

?

Did someone add a Feul Treatment or Additive or just give it an Italian Tune Up Road test?

This is the basic service like Air Filter, OD filter and oil change .I have my service scheduled in June or July every year or every 15,000 kms .Car runs fast till December but from January the car feels a little sluggish.

Err doesn't this happen with every car? I've always experienced better performance after a service. Oil changes will make engine smoother, air filter replacement lets car get the air it requires. Over time as things get dirty the engine management will compensate for dirty/worn parts. Putting new stuff in it will go back more to factory spec.

I.e. your fuel/air mixture will get affected with a dirty air filter so car will compensate by adjusting settings. New filter will reset to the more optimized levels

Never something that I have experienced with routine servicing. Oil service intervals are not that far apart that the oil has degraded to the point of ceasing to lubricate effectively and the air filter is not clogged where it restricts any flow. I am sure that going massively over these intervals would have that effect, but as you say, that isn't what you do.

@Sarthak  I see you are in India and this is a 2022 TSI, so is this the car coming up for only it's 3rd service?

I see you say servicing June / July time and runs fast til December then feels a little sluggish.

I know nothing about your region so is the Petrol the same all year and is that 95 octane,

& is the weather / temperatures and the humidity the same in January as it is in July?

Yes this will be its 3rd service. The day the service is done the engine feels very responsive but before the service it feels like it is running at 90% capacity.

On my BMW they used to do the throttle adaptation reset sometimes. That would make it feel different.

@Sarthak I thought I was the only one noticing such behavior! My Octavia is due for its third-year service in 10 days, and I've been noticing harshness in the engine and gearbox. The engine feels a little sluggish. Is this a deliberate feature to prevent wear and tear? It feels super responsive after the service, though.

@akshayb how many miles / km has your car covered and are you intending having the spark plugs replaced and have you had a look at the condition of the air filter?

@Ootohere My car has covered 35k kms / 21k miles. The third-year service guide does not include changing the spark plugs, it is due for replacement after 4 years or 60k km. And no, the air filter hasn't been inspected yet, but is due for replacement this time. Do you suspect a clogged air filter?

Yes that is the Service Schedule, but then conditions in Europe /UK and India might be rather different, as might be fuel.      Location location location and it is yourself that is aware of decreased performance as is the OP so it has to be for some reason on such low mileage cars / engines.

I'm not experiencing this phenomenon, but inevitably conditions and fuels do vary by region. What I can't understand is why those factors would cause a steady deterioration in performance which suddenly improves after servicing, unless very dusty conditions progressively / prematurely clog the air filter. If the performance improves after a service where the air filter hasn't been changed, then it's a bit of a mystery.
