Then of course I had to look at the 110R vid.

Brake calipers from Ford Mondeo, yes but which model?

Probably from a MKI Mondeo.

Seeing this video was a turning point for me.

I also want to get some more power but I couldn't decide what to do.

With the standard 1.3, options are limited. So usually, out of the box swapping is advised. Like AFH AVY, 1.8T etc.

But I didn't know the AEE was capable of achieving this kind of power output without forced induction.

In the video's comments, people say that, this engine was the 75HP AEE unit. 8V.

Yamaha R7 carb.

Very very precision balancing and probably strengthened pistons.

Pro-made custom intake & exhaust.

So, for the questions asked about engine mods, here we have a shining example of a Felly with an alternate solution.

@D.FYLAKTOS You were asking for a hood scoop if I recall correctly. I see a functional hood scoop in this Felicia but looks like there is no solution for water splash.

My questions is;

How flexible is this engine setup for everyday use?

An AFH or AVY can deliver performance when asked but also tuned from factory to be drive-able in the city. How about this engine we see in this video?

Any engine can be made flexible with proper camshaft and intake-exhaust tuning FYI

Why dislike a TRACKcar doing track things, i only dislike STREETcars wanting to be track cars

YOU CANT TUNE A 1.3MPI but

The proper way to do is as follows.
Start with a complete rebuild, measure every tolerance decrease mains tolerance.

Get a cam professionally regrind according to the 10point curve calculated by a professional for rpm target to make sure ramp is acceptable for flat tappet.
Have custom-made titanium push rods.

Have beryllium seats fitted with a 7 angle valve job keep valve sizes the same but make custom titanium valves.

Have high k valve springs with titanium retainers.

Have an exhaust 4-2-1 calculated by a professional and make it STEPPED out of 314 stainless.

Have a custom intake manifold calculated for rpm target and manufactured with adequate volume and proper cfd (internal trumpet design from high volume collector).

CNC port intake ports to 32mm from 27.

Get crank perfectly balanced with flywheel and clutch assembly and main crank pulley (G 6.3 grade Et of 6.3 @9500rpm)

Run custom ecu, sequential injection, not wasted spark.

Modify oil pressure control valve run high zinc diethyl phosphate oil

Make a windage tray

Lighten the flywheel to the point of getting harmonic resonance out of the rpm zone

Adjust all other pulley sizes accordingly so as not to overspeed auxiliary items (ie water pump and cause cavitation)

Rev to 9000rpm.
Make 165Hp....

Does the 1.4 Fabia crankshaft help with resonance? It appears that it's a bit more rigid between main bearings, and most powerful builds run them.

Anyway, it's quite amazing that the owner of the car from the video have been able to transform the anvil that VW called an engine into such monster.

It could very well help or deteriorate. It all depends on its resonance frequency which is a function of stiffness and mass. Maybe builders use them because of high torque demand i.e. Non NA applications

Yes, that was the first thing that i noticed in this Felicia plus the 5 holes in front (probably to brink fresh air inside) but has no cabin filter below so maybe has that scoop as ram-air to bring air inside the engine bay.

He didn't go crazy in weight reduction in the interior, the wheel are 15" am i wrong?

Take a look the indication, 316455 Km and still is running and adding more Km every month ! Imagine in the past how many times heard the ''why don't you sell it and buy a new car?'' from some idiots ''i know everything for every sector''.

For sure it was very reliable image.png.ff1e8045ecc7047e39023f29bd4ebf2e.png

Bought in 2000, heavy modified in 2010 and worked till 2021.

The guy is a rally man and has other cars to work with.

So where is the problem?

So it lasted 21 years when there are already 28 years felicias on the road

There must've been something wrong if it wasn't, those numbers aren't that far from the stock ARC/AVY engine.

So if he had made the tuning in his car by your way

then it would last 50 years? :giggle:

Actually not!

That's why I don't advise it. Go big or go home as Americans say...

I think it was mostly a flexing project. It's quite common for tuners in Greece to create halo projects...

The Americans are the founders of the logic ''improve your stock car''

that you blaim.

Yes was for an illegal purpose but without them things would be much different and since we copy them in EU there wouldn't be guys like Gemballa or companies like AMG.

What are we talking a german engine that last over 20 years without a problem it's amazing. Yeah they are a lot Felicia's out there. That they have last longer. i even have one with 500k km and runs just fine so i bought another one for fun and for 1000 euro i got a car that can get me everywhere reliable and a fun project that can smoke almost every single car that is around 100 bhp turbo or not. so i don't get why you are talking **** about a 134 hp car more then double of the normal felicia you find around. Also don't forget you can buy a yaris with the same power and you will have 1/4 of the consumption. you can't blame someone that he sold an old project car to fund something new. As much i love my car i can't ever blame someone if he is selling to get something new.

It actually sounds more like something Skoda could've done themselves - Felicia + ARC engine would make a nice RS version.

Is these?

From teflontom's post about this upgrade,

Quote

my donor car of choice was a mk1 ford mondeo circa 1996/7, which uses ATE brake calipers also with a 60mm caliper piston.

He choose this because of availability.

Our cars have 54mm piston. Increased piston size results more pedal travel.

He had got the upright's holes drilled precisely by a workshop from 10mm to 12mm to be able to mount the Ford's carrier bracket. He had to grind off some material from the carrier brackets.

The disc is from an Hyunai Accent Era. Plug&play. No modification needed for the disc.

One must be careful when choosing brake calipers from Ford. Because there are many types and variants.

ABS and non-ABS variants makes a difference.

The only thing keeps me from doing this conversion is the wheel size requirement.

Currently I have two sets of 13s. One set for winter and one set for summer. Plus the one spare tire sits in the trunk.

If I do this, I'll need 9 wheels and tires. @ 14".

The stock brakes are barely enough in hot summer days.

Especially if you have to drive on hills.

Last summer, I smelled burning brake material several times while driving.

One time when I parked after coming from a downhill route, I literally heard the front brakes sizzling. :worried:
