Has anyone changed their front brake pads on their Kamiq?

Featured Replies

Hi all, am new here.

I am a Saabaholic but my wife has a 2021 Kamiq Monte Carlo. I am about to change the front brake pads and just wondered if there is anything I need to look out for?

Also, does anyone know the torque specs for the caliper? Any special tools required?

Grateful for any help or pointers.

I've done mine. Not too difficult. The slide pins need an Allen key to remove them, I think it was 6mm but can't be certain. Thing to watch is when you put the slide pins back in. They are very easy to cross thread so make sure they are perfectly in line before you screw them in and only tighten them using your fingers until they are well in. There is a bit that sticks up on the bottom of the carrier that the caliper must be fitted inside to get the pins to line up properly. I can't remember what torque I used on the slider pins, 20Nm comes to mind but worth doing a search online to check.

As above post really but make sure you don't make the same mistake as me. I ordered discs and pads but they were the wrong size. Unbeknown to me at the time there are two sizes of front discs for the Kamiq 256mm and 276mm. Mine were 276mm on a 1ltr 2020 model SE L

I got sent 256mm size + pads to suit, I guess it was my fault for not double checking but at the time the car was new to me.

I've never worked on a Kamiq, but every VAG vehicle I have changed brakes on has been a 7mm hex. An annoying size that is never in tool sets and I had to obtain as a 1 off.

Yes correct, I invested in that hex bit for my tool kit, the same size as on my previous SEAT brakes.

I have the correct 7mm bit, it’s the same size as for one of my Saabs so at least that went my way 😎

Been bitten long ago, now I never order pads or discs without having a quick look first. Measuring disc diameter and getting an idea of pad shape & any identifying ears on them. Even a rough diameter measure with a rule looking through an alloy wheel can often narrow down options.

I’ve never had a car that has had two possible brake fitments like that before. Even Saab with their known little anachronisms make brake part selection simple.

Suppliers/Skoda should at least be able to make it so that looking the car up by reg number (which I did on several sites) will bring up the correct sized discs and pads. No need to be unnecessarily complicated.

This thread will help, particularly Carlstons post re brake sizes and parts numbers when ordering👍
