Boot Torch not working?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, first post here, so hopefully I'm not asking a question that's been asked multiple times before (could not see anything on a search)

Should the boot torch on a 2019 Kamiq come on automatically when the boot is opened?

The fixed light does, but the removable torch does not and I can't seem to find a concrete answer on if this is a problem or not as some videos seem to show it coming on when the boot opens, but when I asked the dealer, they said no.

Thanks in advance!

Can you take a photo of the lamp installed in the car?

yes, take a photo please

First pic is torch as soon as I open the boot (looks a bit like it's illuminated but it's not)IMG_20250131_121656.thumb.jpg.4d252ce7f2d40e541ae4480076b49b6f.jpg

Second pic with torch removed (obviously :p)

Third pic is after pressing the button to turn torch on.

I see this for the first time. I have a completely different one. And mine doesn't come off...

On my 2020 Kamiq, the torch end of the boot light doesn't come on when the boot is opened, and I can see no reason why it should as it is pointing directly at the end of the lamp holder it is in and would add little or nothing to the boot illumination.

That's fair enough for me then, if it's the same with other people too.

It looks like there are LEDs on the 'top' of the torch which was leading me to think that maybe that bit should come on automatically.

If not though, then it's all good and not something I need to raise with the dealers when it goes back for a few other bits.

First ever Skoda and only owned for 2 weeks so early days getting to know things !

Thanks for the confirmation.

Glad to be able to help.

When i open the boot on mine, Both lights come on, Fixed one and removable torch.

Must have been costs cutting on the late 2020 SE L model, no boot torch and only one boot light, the other side has a blanking plate on mine?

What model/year is yours then, seems to be losing features as the years roll on, unless mine is broken 😕

Yes, if you press the button, the front end of the torch comes on ok (it also comes on if you press it when it's plugged in).

It's only the front part though, even though it appears there are LEDs in the 'top' of the torch too.

Have you checked there is power going to the torch contacts in the boot

I've only had the car 2 or so weeks and was trying to get a consensus of if it should come on or not before raising it with the dealership - they said no it should not come on but others say it should and videos seem to imply it should too.

So no, I have not checked that yet, but I would have thought it it was not having power, it would not charge and would not come on at all...

Does it then go off when the boot is closed?

Nope, if I manually turn it on, then close the boot and open it again, it's still on

Old saying when all else fails read the (something) manual, particularly applies to lazy, arrogant poor quality workmen (women normally have more sense unless trained by men and only working with men).  For sensible men working or not working in the trade then before or as soon as you get your car (or equipment) have a read of the vehicle's 'Owners Manual' and refer to it when required and before doing work or adjustments.  Reading and referring to manuals can save a lot of hassle, time and money, particularly if it saves going to a lazy arrogant poor quality workman (electricians, plumbers and mechanics are the worse in my personal experience, I wish more women would go into the trades to improve things).

A - Button for switching on and off

B - Light (lights up when the light is in the bracket and the boot lid is open) [ - the light shown in the posted photos ]

C - Light (lights up when the light is outside the bracket) [ - these are the LEDs on the end ]

HTH.

2019 Kamiq SE 1.5 Auto.  Removable boot light/torch goes on and off with boot lid.  Also have the well hidden umbrella in the drivers door.

What I meant was, is it off when the boot is closed, not when you subsequently re-open it.

So if switched on, does the act of opening the boot turn it both on (open) and off (closed).

In my car, the trunk light is like this (but I’m the second owner), does anyone else have a light like mine or is this an upgrade from the first owner? It is turned on by a button with a red backlight in a circle. Thank you!

Just looked at mine. When the boot is opened with the torch in place the LED'S on the side illuminate ( i think there is 3 of them) but not the top ones. when the torch is removed and switched on the top LED'S illuminate ( i think there is 2 of them) but not the 3 side ones..

Yep, looks like there how it's supposed to work (also what is stated in the user manual, which I'm not sure why I didn't check!)

So, I'll add that to my list of things to fix when I goes back in on a month or so.

It is not unknown for VWŠkoda Owner's Manuals to have some errors and omissions like (almost?) all sources of information but below image is what the 11/2019 'Owner's Manual' has. -

When my wife had her VWŠkoda Favorit in the very early 1990s the boot light was a removable rechargeable torch, IIRC one incandescent bulb, no LEDs then, it seemed a clever useful idea but it was never used other than as a boot light.  No umbrella but a reasonable tool kit and spare bulb kit.

@zer081 check the removeable light is fully sitting and clipped into its holder.

The manual doesn't say so as such but then try pushing the big on/off button 'A' to turn the boot light 'B' on.

I guess but might be wrong, only light 'B' should be on with removeable light fully seated on cradle and electric connections and that light 'C' is only on when light is removed from cradle and electric connections.
