Engine oil grade 1.6tdi 504,505,507?

Featured Replies

Hi quick question. I have a 12 plate 1.6tdi with dpf. What engine oil is reccomended. Cars before had no dpf so used 5w30 fully synthetic think 504 0r 505. Wasnt that fussy as cars were pretty old so used cheapest available. Read that if DPF fitted the oil grade is more critical. Should I use 507? as I now have dpf. Haynes manual doesnt cover the 1.6tdi. Oil gets changed at annual service.

Look up MANNOL 7715 oil (meets the 507.00 spec), usually around £20 for 5 litres.  It's longlife (good up 20k miles)... Defo don't run it that long though, I change at 7500 miles and have 140k miles on my 2011 1.6tdi run only on that oil and never had any issues with the engine, not even had a dpf light once. Good oil and value for money.  Use a good filter as well, a bosch is the go to.

You need the Haynes manual for the VW golf of the equivalent year, that fully covers the 1.6tdi engine, ident to the octavia.

Many thanks. Have been using comma 5/30 505 spec in my 1.9tdi but its no DPF so not so critical. I change annually as we do about 8000 miles a year on average. Mainly short runs so bit worried about DPF but so far no probs. Will see if I can pick up a golf haynes for the 1.6tdi. Not sure why haynes skoda didn't cover it. Mannol is a good price compared to some of the others so might give it a go. My local motorfactors sell mainly Comma and also now Napa?? but will ask them.

Hope you meant 505 01 for the 1.9?

Yes missed out the 01. Local motor factors are very good. They said as its a PD engine its reccomended.

I have the same engine and my VW group garage uses Quantum 5W-30 (VW 507).
