My non-facelift 24 reg Octavia delivered - first reactions

Featured Replies

Well done Arnold Clark for getting my beautiful Octavia SE L 1.5 E-tec Estate down to Exeter from Aberdeen (!) for £149.

I only got it yesterday late afternoon after a long drive in my old Octavia, so haven't had much chance to investigate it.

The colour is that dark blue/green (Lava Blue?) which I'd been hoping for.

It was originally sold by AC as 'blue', and their inventory label on the keys calls it 'green'....

Looks great to me.

First impression is that it is actually noisier than my wonderfully quiet old 14 reg 1.2 Octavia.  But quite a satisfying engine noise if you accelerate.

As it's still in its first year, what connectivity comes with it?

Does it connect to the internet itself - i.e. can I use my spotify account without using my phone data?

The spec printout I bought on eBay says 'YOY - Remote Access + Infotainment Online 1 year'.

I'm going to have lots of questions to ask you experts, I'm sure.

Welcome to your new motor. Hope you enjoy it as much as I am mine. Lots of tech stuff to get used to, spend hour or so with a coffee sat in the car working through the menus with phone & search-engine or the manual by your side (just in case). It will be time well spent.

The internet connection in the car is primarily for the Škoda Connect services (Remote Access & Infotainment Online); the use of those services is subscription based after the first year.

For Spotify etc. you'll need to use your phone and CarPlay or AndroidAuto; so either stream the music with your mobile data or cache the it on your device/app.

There is an option to by a SIM Only package from Cubic which adds mobile data to the onboard eSIM - the car can then become a WiFi hotspot for all the phone & tablets you and passengers take in there. It is not necessary as most folk have an excess of data as part of their mobile package anyway.

Connectivity:

The car has data connectivity that it / Skoda use.  You can subscribe to a data plan that will allow the car to operate a WiFi hot spot for mobiles / tablets.  The infotainment system will not connect directly to Spotify.

As a new car it includes a 12 month subscription to Skoda Connect giving you access from your mobile to data on the car and the ability to operate some functions remotely.

You also get a 12 month subscription to Infotainment online which includes map updates and real time traffic information.

Both of the above operate without needing a data plan.

OP says it's a 24 reg (March 24 to August 24) so it's not a "new" car as a "new" car will be a 74 reg?

Good point.  As he says it is in the first year he should be able to take over the remainder of the free 12 months.

Thanks for the advice!  I will do what you say.
