Fabia 1.6tdi - Cambelt change- Prices ?

I have a 2010 Fabia Hatch (manual) with slightly under 125k on the clock, I changed the cambelt at 60,000 about 7 years ago, so as far as i can see i am about at the time i need to change it again.  Can someone tell me what i am looking at for the work to be done, i assume its best to change the water pump and all the other associated '' gubbins ''. So what am i looking at ?

 

I have maintained this car perfectly over the years, i have owned it since nearly new, and the whole exhaust system was replaced from the headers to the tail about 18 months ago (the other one rusted to near nothing). It looks like it has done 30k not the miles it has. I will be changing it in the next few years, but do still really like it so need it to not go .......' boom' before then. What do you think.... can i risk it for another 2 years or replace the cambelt  as i feel i need too ?

Well, SUK have extended the cambelt change mileage to at least 125_000.

Wow, that is a long time. I did not know that.

If when you had the cambelt changed they used a genuine vw belt pulleys and tensioner the belt is good for 90.000 miles ,but normally most places use a pattern belt and you are lucky to get 60.000 out of these if you know the belt was genuine no problem but if  pattern one myself would get it changed,sometimes you can search vw dealers ebay or skoda parts .com horton skoda and places like that and get a belt kit at a great price  and then use a garage to get it done, i remeber buying a pump and correct coolant that was genuine vw at a really good price from a vw dealer in Cardiff new old stock the extended mileage is only for the genuine belts but sometimes the pump fails, so 90.000 is usually the best time to change

Thank you for that, i was a genuine VW one, so that makes me feel a bit better.

I always do mine at 60,000 or 5 years whatever comes sooner. I have always used Gates belts/kits and have had no problems. In the past I have come accross genuine vw belts which seem perfect at 60,000 but the tensioner has started to fail or waterpump starting to leak. 125K is very long for a belt change and unless you were doing huge mileage a year I assume the car would be well out of  waranty if it snapped at say 100k. Personally I would get it changed for peace of mind. Last one I did was a 1.9tdi. Got full gates kit from autodoc for around £100
