Is this off my Skoda Superb?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, new to owning a Skoda and new to the forum. So hello.

basically I have two cars. A Skoda and a Volvo.
I can’t get either into the garage for a week or so- I’m wondering if this has fallen off the superb- I know that’s a long shot online- but I can’t see anything on the car missing- it’s these two bolts.

88 with what seems to be some rubber or seal at the edges.
just don’t want to drive the car if it’s unsafe.
anyone recognise it. Appreciate it’s a long shot but thankyou.

For further info it would have been by the position of it (drive is on a hill) left hand side of the car.

edit to add- has anyone working on superbs seen these fixings- and to what? Trying to identity 1. If it’s off this car. And 2. Where from on the car.

Thankyou.

Further info.

HDW 8.8 is the bolt grade, nothing to do with the part itself unfortunately.

Just been checking the camera to see when it appeared. And I’m fairly sure it’s off the ŠKODA..

does anyone know on which parts of the car these are used

  Thanks

Don't recognise it myself but it looks aftermarket to me, clamp for a mudflap or part of a towbar perhaps. Google Lens comes up with a few suggestions, including a Volvo oil cooler.

How big is it? Are the bolts welded to the plate? A better lit photo on a white background would help.

Hi here are some more photos.
checking Google lens I don’t think it’s a match.
looks like some sort of sealing was attached to it.

Thanks for the better pictures! The hex bolts, blobby welds and plastic coating leave me pretty confident this isn't part of a modern Skoda.

I think so too it also appears to have remnants of the electrical connection carrier attached as well.

So what your saying is more likely off the Volvo and something electrical?

It means I can take a more detailed look under the car.

Looks heavy duty to me, almost like ( maybe?)  it would be a reinforcement/ backing plate that fits behind a chassis section with a towbar arm on the other side of the chassis, fitted with nuts.

does either car have or has once in the past had a towbar fitted?

No to both. No towbars and it doesn’t look like the fittings to the mudflaps either.

Might someone else have been parked in the drive, maybe a delivery?

I found a piece of suspension spring on my drive a few months ago, clearly the snapped tail of a coil. I didn't see anything damaged on our cars, but remembered the window cleaner being parked there the day before. When I called him, he said "Hmm, that might explain the loud bang a couple of days ago!" 😄  Sure enough, his garage confirmed it was from his van...

Whatever it is with captive bolts it will not have fallen off, it has been removed from whatever it was once attached to and left on a subframe or undertray to later fall down, it may not even have been your vehicle.

Hi,

I may be wrong, but I don't think it comes from your Superb, 'cause most of the screws of this size are Torx type in the VAG world.

Looks like an aftermarket mount off a towbar, bike carrier, or more commercial vehicle suspension component.

Maybe a delivery van or the like.

Unless you have aftermarket fittings on either car, probably not yours.

Unlikely for something to fall off a car parked in a driveway. I'd expect it to fall off over a bump in the road or simply rattle off driving. Or from a vehicle parked there idling for a long time.

Torn anti vibration mount / engine mount there must be two nuts about somewhere, the bolts are captive welded.

To confirm this is 100% not off the superb. Went into see ŠKODA today on the off chance and they checked and confirmed it’s not off the car. So that’s a good result- now to see if it’s off the Volvo- else it’s just a randomly off someone else’s vehicle.
