Dashboard illuminates like a Christmas Tree!

Featured Replies

On starting my 2019 Super Estate I get multiple warning messages about failure of auto stop/start, tyre pressure monitor, ABS etc. The dashboard is a mass of warning lights.

I have had the battery checked and it is good.

Any ideas or is it back to the garage?

Buy a new battery if it's still the original. Not all battery tests are the same.

Wait for the BITE cycle to complete before starting the engine.

I think the battery CCA ( Cold Cranking Amps ) is the most significant check to be carried out. 12.5v when switched off & 14.5v when running doesn't really tell you much.

I believe anything below 10.5v when cranking indicates it may be due for replacement.

Who has done the battery test? I've found that when RAC did one on the roadside for me before, they said it was fine. But having it done at a Skoda dealer days later with the proper VW tool diagnosed it as failed when my original battery was knackered.

Without even reading any content in the thread my first thought was a knackered battery and that they can test ok but still not be enough for the systems in the car.

Modern electronics can be quite sensitive to voltage fluctuations.  If the cold cranking drops the voltage to below the happy point then it can send the systems into error.  The issue soon goes away and the systems will function correctly for a time.  However, it's not good for them to be going through that too often.  You may also find that the car runs better on a healthy battery.  Glow/spark plugs perform optimally alongside other solenoids etc.

Can you explain how the battery was tested?

Was the battery fully charged before being load tested at a high rate discharge?

Alternatively, checking battery voltage with a DMM while cranking the engine can give some useful idea of condition.

Thanks for all the responses.

Sent the car to my dealer for investigation. The battery was fine. The problem was traced to a faulty speed sensor on one of the wheels! Everything back to normal now.

Good to have a resolution…and that the battery is actually fine!
