Replacement wing mirror on MK3 Octavia Estate not staying firmly clipped in

Featured Replies

After an incident with a wheelie bin, my other half returned the car with a missing passenger side wing mirror cover.

I purchased a replacement Skoda part from a part supplier who checked my car details and confirmed it was the correct part.

Watched a YouTube video and it looked like it was simply a case of clipping it in.

It looks like a perfect fit but when I push it into position it doesn't feel like anything clicks into place though it does apppear perfectly aligned.

However I can easily pull it off again with my hands and not a lot of force.

I have attached some photos. There is definitely a little bit of damage to the wing mirror itself which possibly could explain why it is not clipping into position.

Any ideas?

The part I purchased was Genuine Skoda Octavia 2013-21 wing mirror cover cap primed (left) 5E0857537A GRU

Perhaps I can use some sort of tape or sealant to keep it in place otherwise the first pot hole I meet it may fall off.

Thanks in advance

Paul

Added additional photo and fixed a typo

Probably broken clips - I assume you're replacing the other plastics so I'd just wait for them all to arrive.

You can see the two clips on the new cover, take a look at see if there is anything for them to clip into. Certainly looks like something has snapped off here:

Thank you. Yes I think I you are right and that would explain it. I hadn’t ordered any other parts and was hoping just to replace the cover. The light on the wing mirror and electrics to move it all work perfectly still. I may well need to use some sort of glue to keep the costs down as don’t want to have to replace the whole wing mirror.

Btw apologies for delay in replying - the site was not loading for me all day

Just to update, I am going to return the cover and purchase an entire wing mirror from Ebay in the correct colour. My thinking then is this will save me having to get it painted and hopefully I can get a local garage to fit it. I am assuming I would need to replace the entire thing and cannot just take elements from this and replace parts on the existing one. Hopefully a local garage will not charge a lot to replace this. I believe it would involve removing the door panel and that is out of my comfort zone.

One more question. I have purchased a wing mirror on Ebay in the correct colour but have noticed this morning it says it is a "Powerfold"

"SKODA OCTAVIA MK3 2015 WING MIRROR N/S PASSENGER SIDE POWERFOLD IN GREY LF7Y"

The code on the light element is the same code as the one on my existing wing mirror.

So will this be OK as a replacement. I am hoping it just means I won't have powerfold functionality but everything else will be the same?

Update to report the wiring on the powerfold is apparently different so seeking an alternative on fleabay.

You should be able to just move the plastics across :)

Thanks for the reply langers2k. Not sure what plastics you are referring to (you can tell my knowledge is not amazing).

I managed to cancel the powerfold one and ordered just a standard powered one from another ebay seller.

So I am assuming this will need to be fitted and I can't just take parts from it and replace them on the one that is on my car at the moment.

Ah I think I know what you mean now after watching this video on YouTube

That would save me paying for someone to fit the entire unit :)

Just to complete the story, I ended up purchasing a replacement wing mirror from Ebay for £60 and a very kind friend helped me take off the door card and replace the broken one. Seemed like a simpler option than taking the 2 wing mirrors apart and swapping out pieces.

So a happy ending. Thanks for all the advice.
