Oracle RAC

Featured Replies

Any RAC experts out there? Any quick win tips for an interview Thursday morning? I've been linked with Oracle in a support or advanced user role since version 6.1 or thereabouts, but now am going for a techie interview which involves RHEL4.x and RAC - any pointers as to stupid things not to say, or good things to know about it which don't require in-depth knowledge - I'm old and sensible enough to know not to bull**** about stuff I really don't know about, but to say I know where to look - but a few terms to sound familiar with (I don't mind some research in the few hours beforehand when I'm supposed to be doing other work ;) ) may not go amiss.

TIA

I can't help you on the Oracle stuff, but I just wanted to wish you good luck !

I can only help with RHEL4, we did have oracle running on it, but well it wasn't pretty.

Most things Oracle aren't pretty (no offense ;))

That said, good luck

The willing to attend suitable training to bring yourself up to speed is usually a good one when you can't answer a question.

Good luck :)

Training eh - that rings a faint bell somewhere - nope, I can't remember what it is...

Oracle is IMHO still the best, but I'm biased. Maybe DB2 comes close - I've not had the chance to play with it much. SQL Server - perlease!

Noooo not SQL server :P

Now MySQL or PostgreSQL is a different kettle of fish. Oracle is obviously rock solid, but damn expensive and a PITA in my opinion. Unless you really need it oracle is overkill, but when you do need it you will be pleased you used it I would guess. DB2 is very nice these days though :)

MySQL is still pretty basic in terms of its storage technology, although it manages to be quite fast. Postgres - hmmmm not had much exposure to that - did it grow out of Ingres?

If you are using MySQL make sure you set the table types to InnoDB and all will be fine :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PostgreSQL - More than I know about it's past, I just use it, but it was written by some of the same people who wrote ingres. :)
