Hi mate, it's got a decent screen with dab radio and Bluetooth just doesn't have sat nav built in. So thought I could upgrade to car play

This is the front, you need the special tools to remove it

Not to state the obvious. But the thing you've posted is a completely different shape to your stereo.

At a guess, it's for older cars like the MK2 Octavia, not a MK3..

Hi mate yes I know it's wrong my original question wasn't explained properly, i was meant to ask if I could get one of them type of units the correct one and would it just be as simple as unplugging it and connecting the new one in ? Or do I need to do other steps in order for it to work ?

The issue you really need to check is whether it supports the non-entertainment features of the OEM infotainment units, many of those units do not.

They allow you to both check, and more importantly setup/change/configure, many of the car functions (hence the CAR button).

Do you not have car play/mirror link/android auto activated on your car? Do you have the "Smart Link" option but it is just not activated?

It may be a smaller cost than you think to activate the built-in functionality of your radio, then preserving all the cars functions you also control from your screen.

A 2015 car can be either MIB1 or MIB2 (it changed in May 2015 production), a MIB1 doesn't support CarPlay or Android Auto.

How do I find out which mine is ?

I would think, judging by the size of your screen (tiny), it's MIB1.

Two ways:

  • scan the car with a scan tool and post the part number shown in the scan for the 5F unit.

  • Slide the screen out post the part number shown on the label.

yeah he seems to have an mib1. My car originaly came with an amundsen mib1, same small screen but with satnav and dab.

You likely won't have carplay on this.

you can add a box to have carplay but it is quite pricey, i think in the 200 euros range.

downside is when you are on carplay or android auto you can't acces anything else on the systeme.

The chinese head units havec been discussed number of times, short story, you get what you pay for. great screen, sound and satnav but extremely poor call quality and hit or miss acces ti car parameters.

If you are ok with these drawback then get on, but as personnal experience with several units, save your money and go for a mib upgrade.

Yes it is expensive but you have perfect systeme intergration.
