About to buy a ‘21 octavia vrs

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, long time reader first time poster

I am soon to replace my ‘17 octavia vrs challenge which has been a joy to drive for a newer ‘21 plate octavia vrs

As i am getting it on finance i was told i get 2 years free servicing, mot, roadside assistace and most importantly warranty

Now when test driving the car i noticed passenger from window judders in one direction and there is condensation in one of the rear tail lights

The salesman said they will look into it, is it something they should sort out before i finalise the purchase ?

Or is it something i will/can claim on via warranty once i own the car?

Thank you in advance

If you are buying from a dealer (hence, the salesman), the car should be handed over to you as fault-free as possible or you have the opportunity to refuse delivery.

You should also check what software system update it is on as the early models were not exactly glitch free.

I'd expect those fixing before taking delivery. Oh and software and firmware updating to latest standards too.

I checked and software was updated to 1985 version. Is condensation in tail light common to mk4 octavias?

Well this is a red flag.

"I'll look into it." is a tried and tested way of fobbing off awkward questions until the buying decision is irreversible.

If possible I would stall the buying process and when the dealer contacts you to proceed, tell them you are looking into buying the car.

Their response to your "I'm looking into it." should guide how you respond to their "I'm looking into it.".

And yes, for some reasons Octavia lights do seem prone to water ingress on rear lights.

I had the problem on my car, a 2019 MK3.5.

I do have it in writing via email that both the tail light and window will be fixed/replaced under warranty thankfully

That's good. Make sure that they solve the problem, not just replace bits.

I'm thinking of that window judder.
