2023 Karoq, Selling after 10 months.

Featured Replies

Well it doesn't seem like I've been in this section long but after 10 months I'm selling the Karoq.

I bought it May last year, a 1.5TSi DSG SEL.

Coming from a Yeti 2.0TDi 150 L&K it seemed the obvious choice. I knew it didn't have the fun factor of the Yeti but the tech was a major advance.

But I haven't really got on with it, it's got me where I wanted to go but I never intentionally wanted to go for a drive. I found the torsion beam back end quite thumpy on poor roads.

And my main issue was the long heavily sloping seat base that gave me backache after an hour or so.

I've been that unfussed with it I've only done a few thousand miles in the last 10 months.

So I'm swapping to a Superb 2.0TSi DSG L&K with a few options including massage seats.

In a similar boat with my 1 series but for different reasons.......

Always preferred larger cars but the 1 series was a reasonably sensible choice as I do not need a particularly big car.

And I quite like most of the car, it has a nice interior and the engine is fine for me,and apart from the Steptronic being opposite (+ & -) to my previous DSG by way of changing gear manually, and that I used the DSG for 13 years, I do like the Steptronic.

Oh, but the road noise. On all but smooth surfaces it is intrusive IMO.

For a supposedly premium car, I would have expected better sound insulation.

When I purchased the car Dec 2023 I did think it possible I may still have it in ten years or so, but due only to the road noise I am seriously considering what I can replace it with........ Sad really.

Root did try to warn me but I didn't think it would be so bothersome.

I do miss my Audi A4 2.0T

Interesting - we had a 2019 SEL 1.0 DSG and I (honestly) never noticed any thumping/crashing/poor ride/twitchiness/road noise, loved it - however, the 2024 1.5 SEL we are in now has all the ride refinement of a 1970’s short wheelbase Land Rover.

Most strange.

Yes, our 2018 Karoq is nice and smooth, very little noise once I've emptied out the stuff the wife keeps putting in the car that causes rattles!!

I've found my 2019 model 1.6td SEL to be comfortable, and no issues at all with suspension being noisy or crashing.

Don't get me wrong, the suspension is not why I'm swapping, It's something I'm not sold on, I don't think a car of this class should have torsion beam.

It does add noise in the cabin and gets unsettled too easily.

The main reason is the seat.

Our 22 (just pre-faclift) Karoq isn't great in this respect.

I'm running our daughter's old 2018 SEAT Ateca 1.0 manual at the moment. It's nudging 90K miles and it's such a nicer drive than the Karoq it's hard to believe they're pretty much the same car. Ateca is on 17" CrossClimates vs the Karoq's 18" Primacy's but the difference seems far greater than that.

The Superb looks lovely - hope it serves you well👍

Strangely the Karoq seats haven't caused us any particular concern, although I'm with you on the torsion beam rear end.

Having previously owned a number of Skoda's, including 4 Yeti's (and numerous Octavia's and Roomsters) this Karoq is by far the least satisfying Skoda I have owned thus far.

The main redeeming feature of my current car is as a March 23 it doesn't feature lane keeping assist, or any of the more intrusive supposed driver 'aids'.

I considered swapping to a 2.0 TSi Karoq but would object to the VED payable year 2-5.

Indeed.

Not looking forward to the £620 road tax.

Ouch ..........

I thought the £300+ was extortionate when I had my Audi.

When are prices going to stop going UP ????

Probably NEVER ............

From 1st April £195 a year road tax and £425 a year for first 5 years for anything with a list price over £40k

I like the system here although the dealers probably hate it because it puts people off changing their vehicles every few years.

We pay the cost of the carte grise when we register the vehicle in our name, nothing to pay thereafter all the time that you own the vehicle, there are also malus taxes on first registration which are really prohibitive for sports and luxury vehicles especially SUV's because now they are adding another first registration tax on weight.

It starts at 113g/km CO2 with a malus of €50 rising to €70000 for a CO2 rating of 192 and above, no that isn't a typo!!!!

Add to that the malus masse which charges you €10 for every kg above 1500kg to 1699kg then increases by €5 for each extra 100kg finishing at €30/kg above 2000kg.

Whilst this screws buyers of new Range Rovers etc most of whom wear it as a badge of pride and within 30 seconds of meeting them they will tell you how much their car cost to register it also screws buyers of EV's and Hybrids.

Back in the real world I have only ever paid between €150 and €300 for first registration of an imported RHD vehicle (it halves when they are 4 years old and as I keep them for a decade or longer it worked out at €12 per year for my Octavia, the Yeti will be €15 - €20 per year dependant on how long I live and if I can keep it on the road.

Taking insurance, registration taxes and Contrôle Technique testing (every 2 years not 1 year) together my fixed motoring costs before I drive anywhere are about €240 per year, adding depreciation assuming I live another 20 years it rises to €400.

I am all for taxing the hell out of people buying new expensive/powerful/heavy vehicles but dont like the way the UK penalises those who drive older vehicles with the frequent changes in the road fund license system not to mention those who have to buy newer vehicles because where they live becomes a low emissions zone.

The basic registration cost system in my country has not changed for second hand vehicles, yes the rates go up a little each year, yes the higher CO2 rating taxes go up a lot more (a good thing I believe) but the cost for Monsieur Tout le Monde with a modest second hand vehicle has always remained moderate.
