How to spot the 1.9 from 2.0 TDI ??

Featured Replies

Hmm thinking buy VRS, add 1.9SDI badge ;)

I have read somewhere that dealers were supposed to change the I for the correct colour if they were imported from mainland europe but this never always happened.

The badge colouring on the GTI's is therefore not a reliable way to tell whats under the bonnet.

I have seen alot of GTI's with the red I supposedely indicating a turbocharged model albeit petrol or diesel.

You can get the golf with a 2.0 SDI engine, 75PS.

Maybe VW have decided that engine is too good for Skoda :rolleyes: .

Here's another thought: why didn't the passat or A4 get the 150PD engine? Was it to encourage buyers to have the smoother V6 TDI? :confused:

Do they do an SDI in the new Octy? ;)

The do in the MK5 Golf, its a 2.0 PD non turbo, very odd.

I'm sure there's a couple of guys on here who have/had rather quick 1.4-16v Mk 1's ;)

didn't happen to have a 1.8T under the hood did they ;)

68 Bhp IIRC but it does 60mpg apparently. :rofl:

My SDI doesn't get that :(

:rofl:

And yes, my old 1.4 16v was rather brisk :D

I always assumed it was just being (extremely!) well driven ... my old Justy didn't stand a chance ;):rofl:

Seriously' date=' they aren't any different looking from the petrol variant, the only thing to look for is the puff of smoke and the red I but that could mean anything in reality.

The GT TDI is much more common with the 130 and (I think) 115 PD engines.

I have a sneaking suspicion that they made a PD150 GT though so we're all right and all wrong at some point:P .[/quote']

GT TDi came in 110 My mate has one and 130, his GF has one. I've also seen 150 GT TDis advertised in the trader.

Never seen a Golf GTi Diesel though, all the ones I have seen have been badged as GT TDi.

Now I'm confused saw a VW 2.0 TDi Passat and all the TDi Badge was silver also saw a VW Golf with a TDi Badge where the Di was red so assuming that's a 150Bhp version? pity his car was red as well so it looked like a T from a distance.

Silver TDI = 90

TDI = 110(possibly 115)

TDI = 130

TDI = 150 (VW bora golf and SEAT Leon)

This only applies to the 1.9 litre series engines.

It all goes to pot after that.

If the passat was badged "2.0 TDI" then its just the 140, if it just says "TDI" its the 105 1.9 jobbie. The 170's will be presumably badged "2.0 TDI" with either a red I or a red DI.

Thanks for the explanation a little clearer now. :thumbup:

We should rename this thread "How to spot a TDI"

To sum up, the more red bits on the badge, the more powerful the TDI engine is.

Also: 1.9 SDI = non turbo diesel and produces 64PS

2.0 SDI = non turbo diesel and produces 70PS

Note: all VW TDI power figues are quoted in PS (Pferdest

150 bhp equals sports suspension and 16" wheels as standard. 130 bhp equals 15" wheels. 2.0 Golf never badged as gti. Golf with silver gti badge import ,check stereo. very common 1999-2001.
