Passenger Side Not Blowing Cold Aircon

Hi all,

I have a 2016 Octavia MK3 (right-hand drive) and the aircon isn’t blowing cold on the passenger side (left vents). Driver side is cold as expected.

Cabin filter has been changed

Recalibration done using Climatronic buttons

When I set both sides temperature to below 22c, even LO, only driver side is cold

If I set passenger side to HI, it blows hot air

But when I go back to LO, sometimes it doesn’t bring back cold air — feels like room temp.

Sometimes turning off the engine and starting again later seem to make the Aircon work.

Could this be a faulty blend door actuator that’s getting stuck when trying to switch back to cold?

Has anyone had similar symptoms? And does anyone know the correct part number for the passenger-side actuator in a RHD MK3?

Appreciate any advice!

Yes, quite a common fault. The motor which redirects the airflow has probably failed. Not a complicated job to replace. Get a scan done for the car to confirm this first though.

I scanned with vcds but there are no HVAC fault codes.

What else can I do to verify the cause? Any use for measuring values in vcds?

Set dial from LO all the way to 27C gave me the same actual values. It doesn’t even change throughout the change in dial temperature.

When i increased the dial to 28c, the actual value starts to change

When I turn all the way to HI, it peaked at these values. I was able to see increases in the actual value from a range of numbers from 40+ to 230.

what else should i do using VCDS?

Humm - thanks for posting the full VCDS output. Apprechiated.

Other than random Databus error message in Module 01 (engine) (keep an eye on this one - and I would suggest doing a CCA test on the battery if you are still getting this error repeating itself - looks like a data line CANBUS error), it all looks clean.

Things to check:

1) Make sure that cabin air filter is not block or looking terrible.

2) If you can get in under the central console, can I suggest to look at the actuator of the flap motor. VCDS SAYS it is working correctly, but it obviously isn't. Make sure there is no physical problems with the motor or the connecting rods.

Yup i replaced with brand new cabin filter to eliminate it as an issue.

I have done a physical check of both left and right side. Here are two videos. (sped up)

Left side (passenger side) - no cold air. it can give me hot air at 29.5c and at HI. but i dont see the actuator moving

Right side (driver side) - 80% of the time has cold air. but definitely not quite according to the temperature of the dial. it can give me hot air at 29.5c and at HI.

is it conclusive the aircon issues are only due to the actuators?
how do i change out the actuator on the left?

Have you checked the gas?

I had the exact same issue, gas was low due to a tiny leak. Repaired and re-gassed and all has been perfectly cold since (2yrs).

so I went to top up the gas as the first step but didnt check further for leak. it has been cold for a week. may i ask what repair did you carry out? what are the steps to detect where the leak is at?

It was the condenser that had a tiny leak. Just replaced it with new.

Hi everyone, I have a Skoda Fabia with a 1.2 AZQ engine. I have a warm running issue - the car misfires/stutters when fully warm. The intake air temperature (IAT) reads around 80°C when the problem occurs. When I unplug the EGR connector the car runs perfectly and IAT drops to around 30°C. Is there an option to code the mode select option to pre-FL Octavia MK4 with 1.5 TSI engine? There isn't a button, obviously, since the equipment wasn't selected at purchase. However, AFAIK, you can select and customize the driving mode through the infotainment as well. Also, does the mode selection actually bring any noticeable effect on the engine responsiveness and steering feel? Thanks!
