Timing belt replacement.

Featured Replies

I have purchased a low mileage 1.2 TSI. 2016

Engine number CYVB709998.

The local unofficial Skoda agent suggests that the timing belt has a 10 years replacement interval.

A local trusted garage says they change every 5 years, but that as it doesn't drive the water pump it rarely fails.

The believe that depending on the source recommendations vary from (1). Every 5 years.(2). Every 10 years.(3) 160k km or 10 years.

Can anyone confirm present recommendation for this engine number, and the source of the recommendation

Thank you

Hello, I'm sure its every 5 years, have a search on the forum there are several service flyers from Skoda quoted. 🙂

If you can afford it, I'd do it every 5 years still, regardless of VWG's modified recommendations.

If you can't afford it every 5 years, just take the risk that it will probably be fine anyway.

I watched a local garage use the 'easy method' this is for interest only I do not recommend it.

The 5 years / 50,000 miles was unique to the UK and was a Skoda / VW Moneymaker.

The UK was and is counted as a 'LOW DUST COUNTRY' and that was the actual regime that should have been recommended or advice, pre June 2023 when the new guidance came in.

(Because people with a 1.5 TSI ACT were not paying the £850-£1,200 being asked and were trading in cars instead then Dealerships would need to do them, maybe not taking 6.5 hours, but still not cheap if the car was to be serviced to the manufacturers.

All of a sudden what went before changed.
