MPG 1.0 vs 1,5 litre engines?

Featured Replies

I'm considering a Kamiq for my wife and daughter to use. It'll be used mainly for short trips, my daughter does a 10 mile round trip twice a day. Can anyone please advise the likely real mpg returns for either the 1.0 litre or the 1.5 , or both?

Id go for the 1.0, I work in a garage and it's a lot easier to get good economy. The 1.5 takes around 15-20 minutes before you start to see any decent mpg. I also own a 1.5 too. If the engine is warm the 1.5 is fine but if you don't need the extra power 1.0 is also fine 🤣 the 1.5 is also very nippy tbh, feels better than my 1.5 up to motorway speeds.

Thank you, do you mean the 1.0 is very nippy?

Yes sorry it's seems to pick up quickly with less throttle

I see 43 to 45 mpg (on the screen reading) with daily short trip type of driving. A longer journey will bring well over 50 mpg if not caning in the motorway.

It's the 1 litre DSG btw, slipping it into sport mode makes it very nippy when you need that extra power for overtaking or quick getaway, it's plenty powerful enough in normal drive mode though.

I drive the 1.5 DSG and it'll return over 50 mpg on long runs at the legal limit and well over 40 mpg around town. I don't find I need to change driving mode, just a little prod on the throttle is sufficient. Bear in mind there were engine changes and only the EVO2 engine seems to have ironed out all the bugs.

I get similar mileage to Aldfort. On one trip from Nottingham to Bristol I actually got 70mpg due to interminable 40 mph limits on the motorway roadworks.

Theoretically both are very economical options but no ICE car really gets good economy unless it can get into the higher gears for most of a journey. If most of the journey is in 4th gear or below then a not so good 32-40mpg, 4th gear and above 40-60mpg

The 1.5tsi has more performance potential from the larger capacity but can achieve remarkable economy if driven lightly due to the engine only running on 2 cylinders in low load conditions. It is the smoother of the two and probably the better option if you live in a hilly area.

The 1.0tsi engine has only 3 cylinders and is reportedly slightly less smooth of the two. It has adequate performance for normal British roads/traffic/speeds. The .1.0 tsi DSG version does 0-60 in 9.7 seconds (officially) and presume the 1.5tsi is about 8 seconds?

You don't say whether you are considering new or second hand? The 1.0tsi could be significantly cheaper to buy and insure, if that is a factor?

Test drive both options if possible.

Saw 63 mpg average yesterday just before filling up. Mostly M-way.

Just to note I did see around 65mpg and still rising from my 1.5 at around 60-65 mph, but I can't drive like that I'm too impatient.

i am surprised 1.0 has enough power

I've seen 63mpg on my 1.0 Kamiq on a 44 mile run from Scarborough to York with town traffic/slow traffic queues either end.

Over 3 years...49MPG.

Long runs 60 plus.

Now 6 months in latest model creeping up to very similar figures.

Both 1 Ltr Auto.

A lot of under one mile trips are routine.
