Kodiaq 1.5

Featured Replies

Hello, I’m thinking of upgrading to a Kodiaq sportline 1.5 23/24 yr from a KAMIQ Monte Carlo 1.5, can anyone tell me if the engine is good enough, power and fuel economy wise to be worth the extra cash.

Thanks.

I feared I would regret buying the 1.5 (MY21 SEL 1.5 Auto) vs the 2.0 and yes at times the engine feels laboured, particularly in 1st & 2nd, but I have got used to it, drive slightly differently, and saved myself several thousand. I would in fact sum up the engine as good enough, it won't thrill but once it gets going it's smooth with a reasonable punch if needed. I do about 80% town and country and 20% 60+mph and currently at 32.5mpg. I don't drive aggressively, but also don't watch the pennies.

As to whether it's worth your cash, only you can decide. A test drive or two are in order. See if you can get an extended one and live with it for a day. I did all my regular journeys to see how it compared to the current car at the time.

Thank you 👍

We have an older manual 1.4tsi rather than the newer 1.5 (but it's the same power output) in a 4x4 Kodiaq. It's no rocket ship but it's more than sprightly enough, is absolutely fine for most running around. It's a really smooth engine and benefits from being given a bit of free reign so, whilst I was dubious coming from a more powerful TDi Octavia 4x4 with lots of low down grunt I think it suits the Kodiaq very well.

In terms of economy it's not brilliant but not bad either. We've been getting early 40s on motorway runs from Yorkshire to Lancashire and down south and early 30's round town. In theory the 1.5 should be a touch better.

However, at the end of the day it's a small petrol engine pushing a big car round that has the aerodynamics of a brick.
