Traffic sign recognition error

Featured Replies

Round where I live we have a number of villages where there is a countdown to the speed limit so there's a sign with a 30 and three stripes, then a 30 and 2 stripes then a 30 and 1 stripe and finally the restriction sign.

My car jams the brakes on at the first sign. When I override that it then pings at me to tell me I'm exceeding the limit. What's worse, I find the new Driving Score section in the App has the cheek to tell me that 'Speeding needs attention'. Having been flashed a few years ago for exceeding the speed limit, I am punctillious at respecting limits.

How does one get them to correct the software? And how do I stop my insurance company and friendly neighbourhood policeman seeing this and punishing me?

I'm not sure that the camera system is smart enough to recognise the advance warnings but I wouldn't worry about insurance or enforcement issues. The data goes to Skoda and is held for a year and they need your explicit consent to share with 3rd parties.

I'm not sure the explicit consent part is true, if you were involved in a serious accident where speed was being considered as being a major factor, then I believe the police could apply for a court order to obtain that information. But it isn't routinely shared and would also need to be demonstrated that the speed Skoda identity is actually the real one.

More chance of getting the road signage made more standard, I should think, and good luck with that!

Another thing to bear in mind is that the speed sign recognition is not infallible. Plenty of times it'll pick up the wrong sign and tell me I'm too fast or slow, so hardly evidential quality. Vehicle event data recorders though ... ;)
