Air con evaporator drain hose

Featured Replies

Hi folks.

Does anyone know the location of the air conditioning evaporator drain hose exit point through the bodywork on a 2013 1.2TSI Fabia estate. I can not seem to locate it and no apparent water dripping beneath the car after air conditioning has been on for quite some time.

Thank you Pete. That is a great help, thank you.

No problem.

Bear in mind the the diagrams in the link are for LHD car, so your drain will be the other side of the matrix hoses.

Thanks Pete. Unfortunately there is no flap, however there is a bulge in the insulation and I can feel the pipe behind it. Guess I’ll have to cut my own.

I think/thought that there is meant to be a sort of "one way valve" - a very loose bit of description, but maybe one of these typical split nipple things, over the end of that drain, edit:- maybe to limit the engine bay fumes from getting into the cabin air.

Or maybe you removed it before taking that picture.

There used to be tales about that "thing" being fitted badly/incorrectly and so stopping or limiting the condensate from draining out and away.

Is the insulation not subtly perforated, like the edge of a stamp in a sheet?

No it was just plain, no perforations evident at all.

Nothing was removed from the pipe outlet, that’s as it was when I exposed the pipe.

Does any water emerge when A/C is doing its thing?

It does now, but was bone dry. I have used a foam cleaning aerosol as the musty smell was intolerable. New cabin filter fitted now too.

Have a similar aircon smell prob in my sons MonteCarlo. Which aircon cleaner did you use and would you recommend it?

I used:

Errecom Evaporator Cleaner Foam, Air Conditioner Foam Cleaner, 400 mL Aerosol Can. From large online shopping site.

I can definitely recommend it, the smell has gone and not returned so far. In fact I treated my wife’s friends polo with the same problem and she is happy too.

The thin pipe takes a while to straighten otherwise it’s easy to use.
