Fusso Coat Cracked in Tin.

Featured Replies

A month ago I opened the tin of Fusso Coat to apply for the first time (I think) this year, and noticed inside it was cracked (see pic below). It was fine the last I used it. I bought it just over 5 years ago (Sept 2019) and is the first 'hard wax' I've ever used. I have recently moved it from the house to our garage and accidently dropped it from a shelf, which I'd imagine did not do it any good.

So can anything be done about it? If not can anyone recommend a replacement? I am after a long lasting wax/sealant that's easy to use. I love the longevity of Fusso coat, however I sometimes find it's hard to remove, plus white marks seam to appear a month or so afterwards.

I don't know much about valeting stuff, but could be worth heating it up to see if it melts and reforms as it should? Stand the can in a bucket of hot water?

All waxes are prone to this as they get older. It's drying out.

Have a look to see if you can find out what solvent is used in the formulation of the wax.

If you can get some of the solvent add a tiny amount to the wax, heat up to soften it and then mix thoroughly. This should restore the paste consistency.

It looks like the solvent might be kerosine (actually nonane which is quite pure unlike kerosine which has other stuff in it.) Also there is some naphtha in it. Look for a MSDS for Fusso coat online and take it to your local store. THat said it might be easier to buy some more.

Yep, 10% kerosine. I must admit, I'm not so keen on the smell of the wax, it's strong of solvents, reminds me of Brasso. If I do add liquid (solvent), knowing my luck I'll add too much and ruin it.

I'm surprised it doesn't specify Carnauba Wax as the ingredients. Maybe it's not harmful.

Section 3 is only the dangerous elements they’re required to put on there for H&S. As much as anything, for first responders to review in case they’re called to an incident. That’s why Carnauba isn’t on there - you can get that in foods.

There’s quite a mix of hydrocarbons in that - and while they say kerosene is less than 10%, it could make quite a difference; especially with the same broad statements about Xylene, Naphthalene, Octane etc.

You could contact Soft99 and see if they suggest anything.

Otherwise, bottom line (if you haven’t already as this is way old) - I’d just get some more.
